Hey guys, can somebody please clear up which sword saber has been wielding throughout the anime and which sword Shirou conjured up in the forest.

In the weapons menu it labels it as Caliburn (the chosen sword) but in her finshing move she says "Excalibur" (the one given by the lady of the lake)

In Sabers conversation with Berserkers she says "this is Caliburn, the sword from the stone of selection My sword that was lost forever but..."

"that was not your sword, that was only an illusion made by this man"

Saber nods.

Whats going on? was Caliburn the weapon that was projected by shirou and used to kill Berserker? does that mean she usually uses excaliber? if yes why does it say caliburn in the weapons menu?

Thanks.

Yes Shirou projected Caliburn.Saber doesnt usually uses Excalibur; She ALWAYS does.Shirou needed a sword with power close to Excalibur which wouldnt use Saber's mana and since he has the Master/Servant connection with Saber he could trace Caliburn.Note that without their connection he cant trace neither Caliburn nor

The weapons status display most of the weapons seen in the VN not the attacks of those weapons or Servants.Saber doesnt have Caliburn since like it was said she lost it while she was alive.

^Caliburn was destroyed when she fought dishonorably. That's just how much Saber's legend and honor are bound together. King of Knights and all. Also, Caliburn is the sword of kings that chose Arthur Pendragon as the rightful son of Uther Pendragon and heir to the throne of Camelot.

Excalibur (and it's sheath Avalon) was a gift to Arthur from the Lady of the Lake created by the fairies. That's why Excalibur has legendary strenght and Avalon can heal wounds and grant immortality to Arthur. Again, Saber lost Avalon to her half-sister Morgan Le Fay (although it was later found and used to summon Saber).

Just as a FYI, Caliburn and Excalibur are actually the same sword in the original King Arthur legends and Excalibur is just a bastardization of the original name for the Sword in the Stone. Rewritings of the legend eventually separated the legend of Excalibur and the legend of the Sword of Selection into two different legends, even adding the whole "lost original sword in duel" bit of story and leaving the Sword of Selection nameless. Curiously, this happened roughly around the same era Lancelot was added to the legend and his role expanded upon. Curiously but not surprising as Lancelot is also linked to the Lady of the Lake as the Knight of the Lake and son of the fairies.

The amount of things the anime cut is too damn high.Probably.Havent seen the anime since 2009.

Thanks fellas,
whats all this about using Caliburn will not deplete her mana?
Is the source of all mana not the servant themselves or do noble phantasms have their own pot of mana? let alone projected ones.

The Caliburn they use was created by Shirou hence technically it's stretching Shirou's abilities. Then again, Tracing was kinda OP that way. That's also why it broke. It's just an imitation created by Shirou. I think they never tell you properly in the anime but in the VN Shirou point blank describes that his whole arm feel like it was being ripped off and his body felt numb (because his nerves were burned by surpassing the limits of his Magic Circuit). So yeah, the one who was getting screwed up by using Caliburn was SHirou... but he has plot armor.
