It took 8/9 years for this amazing manga to finally get an adaptation, but I fear the day that it will explode in population and significantly increase the fanbase, and presumably make it worse.

Hopefully that won’t happen. Right now this manga is kind of niche. I don’t meet a lot of people that read it. It is fantastic as we know, but I do want more fans to see how great this story is. I just hope toxic fans stay away but that’s likely inevitable.

you don't want more fans? I mean more toxic fans are bound to come too, but the series exploding in popularity would overall. e a great thing. It'll mean more merch is made, mangaka gets more attention (and hopefully money) towards her work, and generally there will be more people to talk about it.

tbh it isn't *that* niche rn either, at least in North America. Its one of the VERY few manga that was stocked in Canadian Chapters/Indigo before getting an anime

In my circle of friends we all know about it, but that’s just because we’re peaklords. But I live in Japan and here at any bookstore you’ll always see this manga featured front and center because it’s pretty popular here.

I think you mean “grow in popularity”
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Who cares? Do you not want to see the thing you like succeed? why do you have to gatekeep some to "prevent it from getting popular?". It is already one of the most popular manga so it isn't that niche, and I don't understand the idea that if the anime becomes popular it ruins it.

i hope the studio learned their lesson from zom 100 but i wouldn't worry about fanbases you can still enjoy a series without thinking about a fanbase especially when you're worried about one that doesn't exist yet. very petty to obsess over such things and not worth the time

you're worrying about a problem you're making up in your head. If that problem does eventually take place, then you're warranted to worry but like... you're worrying about something that hasn't even happened yet nor can you control.

I don’t understand how an increase in popularity can make the manga and the eventual anime “worse”? It could make message boards, subreddits, and other discussion places worse I guess, if toxic fans come into those spaces. But that doesn’t affect the actual media itself. More viewers also helps to ensure that the adaptation gets to continue…

It isn't how it works. More known works have toxic fans and haters because they are the loudest bunch. Lesser known works have toxic fans who feel secure that they are consuming the most advanced product which others couldn't "conquer".

Once a piece of media is out there, it's meant to be consumed, hype is part of how entertainment society works and the only thing to worry about is when the fans force the author's hand.

What an absolutely pointless and idiotic concern.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

I hope we don't get people that will complain about "How is this anime number one on MAL?" if the adaptation nails it....ya know, the same ones that complained about Frieren overtaking FMA Brotherhood.
