Synopsis
After graduating from high school, the story of Koyomi Araragi came to an end. This time, it truly ended. However, the story of the girls who were saved by Araragi was not over. It is a prequel, or perhaps a sequel to their struggles in youth.

Ononoki is probably my 2nd favorite girl so I really enjoyed that. Especially since it featured almost all the lolis :)
Can't believe we finally have more Monogatari and Shaft was awesome as usual. Plus I could listen to Saori Hayami read a phone book so having her nonstop narration was just icing on the cake.

Loved the little Kaiki "cameo" and Araragi non-cameo and call backs to all the earlier episodes. Can't wait for more. ^_^

Episode 1

And now, we get the sidestories, and I'm not expecting to see Koyomi in this show since it's all about the girls he helped, and Tsuyomi is the one narrating this. Great to see all the girls getting their time in the spotlight, and seeing that it isn't constrained by its TV timeslot (this episode is 8 minutes longer than a typical episode) that Shaft was able to do what it pleases. While this show is being milked to death, it's always great to see Shaft at its finest.

Episode 2

And now, an episode focused on Nadeko, but this isn't exactly the same Nadeko from the main series as this version has short hair, and has been skipping school, instead drawing to become a mangaka someday. And then there's Ougi as this time he's dressed in a boy's uniform. And of course, Yotsugi is being enigmatic as usual. Nadeko has been struggling with life quite a lot, and this is just another part of her life she's having problems with.

Oh good more Nadeko and Ononoki, it's amazing to me how he can take the same character and rearrange them and their past stories into new and interesting ones. Should be fun.

Episode 3

For the first time in this series, there's an opening theme song and as typical of the Monogatari series, it's sung by the seiyuu of the featured girl of the episode, which in this case is HanaKana, the voice of Nadeko, and in a style similar to Love Circulation. Nadeko's sense of imagination really is something, but she needs to return to school someday. And then it's Sodachi who convinces her to come back as ditched school for a day, and found a renewed sense of motivation after taking with her. And of course, it's pretty obvious this show takes place prior to the main series seeing that Sodachi has longer hair in the main series. And Loomer Nadeko goes to show just how messed up in the mind Nadeko is.

That was one cute OP. Though kind of hard not to be with Kana Hanazaw and Saori Hayami. Oof Sodachi looks ike an old lady instead of a college student. And Yay Kanbaru. Kana Hanazawa sure seems like she is having fun playing all the different aspects of Nadeko's personality. Topless Nadeko at the Araragi house should be fun :)

Episode 4

Wrath Nadeko strikes with the chisel, and God Nadeko is wreaking havoc as she chops off Yotsugi's limbs outside of her house. So Nadeko goes out after changing out of her shredded pajamas and puts Yotsugi back together. She has a warning for Nadeko to beware God Nadeko, and that if she encounters Meek Nadeko that it could very well be God Nadeko in disguise. The situation has gotten dangerous now that Nadeko is being attacked by her alter egos.

Nice, that was great having her do a "Sei no" right before the OP in a throwback to Renai Circulation ^_^ (he OP during her first appearance for the uninformed).
Love the way Nishio can take who was his most boring character and keep making her more and more interesting, abd as usual sounds like Kana Hanazawa is going all out with her performance.
Guess we're not going to ever find out what Araragi saw when he lifted Ononoki's skirt. (unless those are meant to be biker shorts instead of a shadow)

I guess Nadeko couldn't find more than her right hand, she also seems to be missing 2 tiers of her skirt, her sleeves, and her pigtails.

Episode 5

The time has come for Nadeko to face her alter egos with the showdown happening at a bookstore. As much as Yotsugi wants to make a fashion statement with that revealing version of her usual outfit, that draws too much attention, so instead she wears a boy's outfit. And then the bookcases are knocked over like dominoes with Nadeko about to be crushed, but Flirty Nadeko comes to the rescue with the request to keep on drawing. And then upstairs there are the mass-produced Loomer Nadeko roaming around, but then comes Medusa Nadeko to crush them all. That was some great stuff there, and both of her theme songs played in the background at various points.

Guess I'm the only one watching this. :/ Oh well, I was just thinking this show hasn't had it's Nise Toothbrush scene yet and then 100 topless Nadekos appear LOL Pretty impressive to have them all walking around and reading books in a million different poses so none of them had a nip slip. Sasuga Shaft.

I'm watching it, but I've only seen one MonogatariI season before and I couldn't figure it out - it seemed all about math. But it introduced me to the concept of the "Traveling Salesman Problem" which I'd never heard of before and found quite interesting, and now I think about it all the time when I see Amazon delivery drivers. Apparently it's still a tough problem, even for AI. I ended up watching the whole season even though I had no idea what was going on, and I'm doing the same here. I can't seem to follow it, but I don't fall asleep and it makes me think, so I kinda like it. I also find myself (in the mirror) practicing that weird "glance back head-tilt over-the-shoulder quizzical expression" that practically seems to be a hallmark of the show, they use it so often.

So I can't really discuss the show here because I'm constantly lost, but for some reason I feel it is worthwhile for me to watch.

You need to watch at least the first 2 seasons to get the background on the characters who are in this season so far.

Episode 6

Seeing that all these Nadeko clones are creations by the main Nadeko that all she had to do was tear the page, and down goes Medusa Nadeko just like that, and the Loomer Nadekos go away as well. After that, Nadeko is picked up by Ougi and is escorted to see Meek Nadeko, who is her former self that was on display in the first season. And with that, Nadeko's story wraps up as adulthood is still a few years away, but she grew a little through this ordeal. She made peace with her personas, as well as to gain the skill to turn 2D objects into 3D, though some things aren't meant to be made this way like donuts. This was all about turning the page, and that she did.

What a great ending, definitely didn't think she was hiding as a "hand bra" Nadeko, had me fooled. Fun stuff. Also didn't see "Meek" Nadeko being the "mastermind" so she can still pine for Araragi. (Lol at Ougi expecting her to want to kill Senjougahara)
Fun how they got Shinobu to interact with her (make more donuts). Nice segway to her arc.
And even though that was the "end" to Nadeko's story now I want to see her team ups with Gaen that Ononoki said were going to happen.

Episode 6.5

Looks like Shinobu will be the next featured character as this week's episode is a fairy tale about how the vampire Kiss Shot ended up on the path she ended up on as told by her seiyuu. It's all told using silhouettes and stuff, but nevertheless it's quite a cruel story, and this vampire definitely deserved better than this.

And now, the next story begins featuring Shinobu back in the days when she was the human Acerola. And with the way this episode was presented was just surreal. Kiss Shot sure got twisted by being around some pretty shady characters, as well as having a curse where her beauty ends up causing her country to fall to ruin. Such a beautiful presentation that was as Shaft knows how to bring surrealism out.

Kind of anticlamactic. Hmm not sure I understood why she was finally able to bite her, also how come Suicide Master didn't become full grown and stayed a kid?

Episode 9

And now, the Shinobumonogatari segment begins with Koyomi and Izuko finding three girls all shriveled up as a result of attempting to vampirize them. With B777Q the big hint, Koyaomi turns to a college classmate Meniko to see if she knows about the matter, and if there is any significance to B777Q. The B represents 6 and Q represents 9, and through Meniko's logic, that translates to S/D/V, which in its proper order is D/V/S. Seeing that one of the victims are basketball teammates that Koyomi turns to Suruga for help, and talking with her teammate, she mentions the toxic environment. While this is Shinobu's story (which will run for 6 episodes to finish off this ONA series), so far she hasn't appeared, though it's clear she had some involvement in all this.

Episode 10

With girls from the basketball team being found all shriveled up, Koyomi turns his attention to Kanbaru. And then he gives Shinobu some donuts to help him out with the case as well, and in particular asking for the person that turned her into a vampire, the one known as Suicide-Master. Shinobu allowed Suicide-Master to suck her blood out of pity. Then he turns to the snail goddess Mayoi, who is still flubbing Koyomi's name, and she has been keeping Suicide-Master safe, though she's all shriveled up. And then Shinobu draws out the demon sword stored inside her and shows off her sword skills as she has had hundreds of years to train. So now, the whole mystery traces to the one who made her a vampire in the first place, who has been under Mayoi's care, so things are going in an interesting direction.

Episode 11

While Koyomi was out, he learns that Acerola regrets this whole pact she made with Suicide-Master, not so much for getting her blood sucked as it is to allow for it to happen, and that has led to centuries of pain and suffering. So as such, she has her motivation for reviving Suicide-Master, and Koyomi now knows what he needs to do to revive her. In the meantime, there's another victim and another code in the form of four three-digit numbers. And then the sun comes up, meaning that the whole reviving Suicide-Master operation will have to wait until the night. More mysteries continue to pop up as there's something amiss about the whole situation.

Episode 12

It's back to the college to get help from Meniko about what to make of those four numbers, and deduces them to mean F and C. What this F/C means could mean forward and center, two positions in basketball, or football club, or the initials of somebody's name among other things. But they think the most plausible meaning is Fahrenheit and Celsius with the 0 meaning the degree symbol, and that they refer to the high and low temps with the first two numbers being the Fahrenheit equivalent of the last two. And then they believe Kagenui is the one responsible for the latest victim. So after asking Karen for her opinion, as well as talking about the matter to Kanbaru, the time has come to revive Suicide-Master, and Shinobu can't help but to laugh about it. More mysteries and seeing the other characters, but now Suicide-Master is back and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Episode 13

The digging continues, and the first clue involves DNA testing, and all the victims' DNA are nearly identical to Suicide-Master's. Then there's the fact that there are four victims, not five, and the mummification indicating a failed vampirization. After piecing things together, Suicide-Master was not the serial bloodsucker, but the zeroth victim Kiseki, whose blood was sucked by DVS but failed to become vampirized. While Suicide-Master was the source of the problem, it was Kiseki who actually did the sucking. And then a pajama party at the end with all the main girls. Koyomi did some pretty fine detective work there, and now let's see how things all play out.

Episode 14 (Finale)

To end this series, Koyomi dresses up in some tight-fitting pajamas belonging to one of the girls there, and then finally arrives at the conclusion as to what really happened. He thought that the signs aligned with Kiseki the main culprit, but it's not her. The mastermind behind this operation is none other than Harimaze, who was on the verge of being kicked off the basketball team. Harimaze assumed Suicide-Master's identity after she asked her to vampirize her, but in doing so Suicide-Master was infected by her poisoned blood. So she decided to attack her teammates and vampirize them as Suicide-Master, but they failed and the girls became mummified again. She attacks Koyomi, but in comes Kagenui to put a stop to her attacks. Afterwards, Harimaze ends up moving away, and she agrees to turn back into a human and unmummify the victims. That was quite the case there, and it' s a good thing that Koyomi, Shinobu, and Gaen were able to figure it all out realizing that Suicide-Master's role wasn't as it seems.

Final Thoughts

This season continues to be a great way to complement the rest of the Monogatari series with Shaft's signature animation style driving up the surrealism of this series as usual. The story writing is strong once again, while the characterization and stuff are top notch. That said, this show's story concept isn't as strong as the rest of the series, but even so there's nothing bad about this show once again, and even that special episode adds to the intrigue of this show. In all, another great piece of work from Nisioisin, though on a much smaller scale than the Owarimonogatari series that is the best of the seasons.

Grade: A (9/10)

So they get probation, in other words nothing changed. Pretty meh ending, well at least best girl showed up for 5 minutes (wow no Hanekawa at all). Kinda disappointed in this 2nd half of Shinobu's story, overall my favorite was the Nadeko arc, at least her character got some growth. College sttudent Araragi figured out he is still just a kid. :/
