Yeah, first episode is kinda messed up. It is the worst one though. Nagatoro goes easier on him for the rest of the series.

Agree. It did get a lot better. I'm almost done with the second season now, and the story improved meaningfully. That first episode was a kick to the balls though.

I just want to say. If you read the manga, there are some side things in the beginning when Nagatoro is too harsh where she thinks to herself “did I go too far”. Kind of lessens the blow a little bit. I think I got close to dropping it at first too. But it’s a series where you have to let it cook a little.
Edit: at the end of chapter one there is a little doodle of Nagatoro saying “did I overdo it?”

One of your favorite animes is Toradora, and nothing that Nagatoro does is any worse than some of the stuff Taiga does. I really like both shows, but come on with this post. Nagatoro turns more wholesome than Toradora does.

The distaste I had with this show early on was that Nagatoro was wayyy too harsh, and senpai was a wet paper bag of assertiveness. The story moves passed this, but it took time.

Taiga doesn't bully on Nagatoro's level. It's not even close. These are two very different shows anyway.

Nagatoro never breaks into his house and tries to hospitalize him. Taiga still headbutts Ryuji in the end, while Nagatoro's teasing becomes much more normal as it goes on. It's kinda weird to defend 1 and not the other especially when Taiga's relationship pretty much stays a 1 sided support relationshipand Nagatoro's becomes 2-sided

Instead of spending your time coming here after 1st episode, how about watch another episode, and even maybe the whole season or two, and then come here and complain? Anyway if you don’t like it - don’t watch it. Nobody is making you do that. The creator is free to create whatever he wants and the studio is free to adapt whatever they want to adapt. Stop with the snowflake cancel culture already.

Or read the manga <3

You don't get it, cause it's made for a very specific group of people, who're getting off by the thought of some hottie kicking them in the nuts^^
These guys wouldn't shoot anybody. They'd be happy beein submissiv, that's all.

I don't blame you. It's weird as hell^^

The responders here need to calm down. People are allowed to post their opinions, that’s what this is all here for, they don’t all have to be positive. Anyway, she is VERY mean and in a real setting doesn’t deserve his friendship, but the story is basically a play on guys who like being treated like this, it’s for that audience. And we can only hope real teens don’t watch/read it and think it’s okay to be terrible people. It’s just entertainment with fake characters.

I agree mostly. I just finished season two, and it is definitely better. She's not cruel (anymore). She's clearly just teasing at this point, but the problem is that our boy has never grown a dick in his life. He has absolutely no clue how to win her over, and this plot is getting tiring. I enjoyed the judo tournament plot line because it gave depth to both characters. They seemed to grow from that. However, the season ending is weighed down by the fact that both are still unwilling to nut up, and be honest with how they feel about each other. I realize most anime is intended for young audiences, but this one really nailed the social immaturity of these character's ages.

There's a lot to enjoy in the series. The art is great. The music is good, and only gets better as the show goes. I still felt annoyed by the end though.

I do think that would make a difference. Wonder why it's omitted from the show?

Funny story. I actually dropped Toradora for its first episode the first time I watched it. I thought the house b&e scene was so cringe that I literally couldn't watch it. A while later went back to it, and watched the whole show. That scene is still cringe because of her character's immaturity. I think the show is great though because she grows throughout the story.

Nagatoro grows too. It's fine if you don't like it, it's just weird to see a post that comes off as hypocritical with what one of your favorites is.

Sakura's a sweetheart (but kind of a hoe, haha). Definitely the best of the 4 girls. And Nagatoro starts off a real piece of work but gets a bit better.

Definitely the more extreme example of the girl tease boy trope.

I'd put it Takagi-san (wholesome) -> Uzaki (good natured but annoying) -> Nagatoro (meanspirited at times, especially the start).

It's harder to watch than the other two, but it gets a bit better. Overall it will still be intense. If you absolutely can't stand it, I don't blame you, although I enjoyed it.

While I like the show, I disagree that Taiga is as bad as Nagatoro (it's been a few years since I've seen Toradora though). Taiga's violent spurts are reactive and sort of gag humor. Nagatoro is trying to humiliate OP. With Taiga she's not consciously trying to hurt Ryuji, but Nagatoro is much more deliberate. She does start to feel guilty when she realizes she's gone too far, so there's that, but I get a much more meanspirited vibe from her than I do from Taiga.

Taiga had plenty of time to think through breaking into Ryuuji's house. She tried to hospitalize him with a wooden sword and also damaged his wall/doors. She is constantly smacking, kicking/dropkicking, and punching Ryuuji (She even headbutts him later on). One can't be "gag humor" while the other is seen as messed up. Nagatoro goes too far at the beginning with teasing, but she only flicked him and punched him in the arm once or twice. The teasing ends up becoming fairly normal and their relationship is 2-sided, while Taiga realizes their relationship is more 1-sided. I'm not saying Nagatoro is an angel (she's not), but she doesn't go as far as Taiga does.

It wouldn't bullying if she put out, but one can seriously argue she's trying her damndest and he's just too dense so the ruling is: not really bullying just hard crushing.

It's crazy how his social anxiety locked him away, she's basically building a man piece by piece, gotta give her respect.

Now if only men could act the same way without being called sexist.

Thought literally the same thing in the first episode, in the middle of the show, and in its ending…

Regarding criticism, well, the anime has aired, which means that the manga is popular enough, which means that our bro mangaka is making cash. Who cares if some dude on the internet criticizes it?

Obvious, kinda…

Anyway, this is the worst romcom I’ve seen so far.

Bro is tripping this so a masterpiece other romcoms have terrible plain mid ideas the point of the whole bullying gimmick is for the show to be actually good and your just complaining cause you can’t realize new ideas and just complain like a bitch and the show isn’t a romcom where it’s like “oh let’s just have some stupid horny shit happen and than it’s just a happy ever after wow best romcoms” that’s the type of shit people are saying is good anyways have a good day

wdym? just because that type of anime (masochist fetish fuel) doesn't exist doesn't make it a masterpiece? that's the same as calling a child necrophilia anime a masterpiece because it hasn't been adapted before
