Movie replaces 25-26. You can watch in either order it doesn’t really matter. Watch the first few minutes of death and rebirth before the movie though. It shows how the second impact happened

The last two episodes were so bad that their was almost a fanbase mutiny resulting in casualties. Nothing else needs to be said.

Those episodes - along with being ahead of their time artistically (especially considering its medium, & teenaged primary audience) - mainly didn't work originally because End of Evangelion didn't exist yet, to clear up the many confusions it inevitably caused.

But TODAY, when one can easily watch End of Evangelion immediately after 25 & 26, there's no real reason to skip them anymore.

Watch 25 and 26 first, then End Of Evangelion. Then just wait for a while before starting the Rebuilds; The first 2 are super similar to the og anime, so you might get bored if you watch them too close together.

This is honestly the best opinion and I will probably use this advice with the Rebuild movies.

don't skip anything at all. watch the original anime, both movies, and the rebuild movies. if you'll love the original anime enough, nothing needs to be skipped, it's worth it.

The thing is this is the best way to prevent confusion but I don't really see why that should be done. I understand confusion is uncomfortable, but it's not a negative thing necessarily. Episodes 25 and 26 were easily 2 of my favorite episodes of the anime, I found them so moving and, yes, confusing. And then the movie cleared up a lot of that confusion while also raising some more questions. Being confused and disoriented is a part of the experience. If you're watching Eva just to understand what's going on and get questions answered, you're doing it wrong.
