Family: Golem
Type: Magic Material
Habitat: Mansions, ruins, towers
Disposition: Devoted, various
Diet: Blood, spirit energy, ambient demonic energy
Blood golems are artificial life forms created from the blood of their creators in a long and arduous process. In order to create a blood golem a sorceress primarily requires three things; a vast pool of mana, a human partner, and a substantial length of time. Creating a blood golem is an extensive investment of time and energy where the sorceresses' mamono blood and a human's blood are combined in a heavily enchanted vessel. Only a small trickle of blood may be added to the vessel every week before the sorceress needs to perform a series of complicated and time- and energy-consuming rites. There is no fixed quantity that may be added at one time, but should the sorceress grow careless and add too great a quantity at once she risks years of work being ruined. Since the precise quantity of blood added and the final mass of the golem are not exact quantities there is no fixed time frame for golem creation, but creating one would likely require no less than 25 and no more than 100 years. A blood golem is considered finished when it achieves sentience.
Few sorceresses, even among those who possess the knowledge, power and resources required, would consider beginning this arduous process as they are left vulnerable and unable to venture far from their homes for the duration of the ritual. Why then would anyone choose to perform this ritual? Once the blood golem has been finished it will serve the will of its creators without reservation. It is magically linked to them both and serves as a vast reserve of both potent mana and spirit energy which the sorceress can freely access. Therefore a powerful sorceress supported by a blood golem is a formidable force indeed.
Even after reaching a state of sentience it is possible to keep growing a blood golem, though the sorceress and her human partner are no longer obliged to remain stationary as the blood golem will no longer be confined to its vessel. Blood golems initially appear as amorphous blobs of blood that somehow hover in the air and only gradually take the shape of something recognizable as a living being. The shape taken depends strongly on the will of the blood golem’s creators and can be anything from a humanoid form to that of various beasts or even more obscure shapes. Just like its form is shaped by its creator's will, the blood golem’s personality and behavior will be shaped by its creator's desires and disposition towards it. Some may desire nothing beyond a familiar to serve them, while others may desire something more akin to a filial relationship. The golem’s abilities will similarly develop in line to suit the needs of its creators. Due to this some blood golems function more as simple servants or attendants while others may be more akin to apprentices and develop into potent sorceresses in their own right.
In order for a blood golem to become a fully fledged mamono her connection to her creators needs to be severed. This can happen if the sorceress, who serves as the focal point of the connection, consciously severs the link or if both of the golem’s creators perish. Only then will the blood golem develop true sapience. Within a few short months a blood golem free from its ties will naturally take on a beautiful female form, though some reminiscence of its former form will remain . The blood golem will slowly develop a fully actualized personality by further building up on the disposition shaped by her creators.
Like most mamono blood golems are attracted to humans in general and men in particular and, depending on their personalities, pursue any opportunities to mate that present themselves. Blood golems possess two primary ways of reproduction. The first is to combine themselves with the blood and mana or spirit energy of a partner. Using this method they can slowly increase in mass and eventually split in two, creating a copy identical in every way at the time of splitting. This method can be used even with a mamono partner, but since the blood of the partner used is different from that of their original creator it is an exceedingly slow method. The second way is to employ the same means used by their original creators and perform the formal ritual for the creation of a new blood golem together with a human partner.
When she finds a lover a blood golem will usually inject part of herself into her lover’s bloodstream, which will allow her to sense them wherever they are and even enable their partner to eat food that would normally be considered poisonous, as the blood golem is capable of neutralizing these poisons quite effectively. Having part of a blood golem circulating through their blood stream will also extend the partner’s lifespan and may even cause some degree of rejuvenation. If they are in close enough proximity this physical link can enable the blood golem to share her own reserves of mana and spirit energy with her partner or access a human’s spirit energy without the need for intercourse, though sex will always remain her preferred mode of receiving her lover's spirit energy.
Name That Mamono: Yavina
Yavina is the creation of an Amarantian countess, who was well known for her magical talents and deep learning, and her husband. While bound to their service she served as familiar, bodyguard, companion, student, and daughter until she was finally freed from service at age 100. Even when her bonds of servitude were severed Yavina did not desire to leave her master and mistress behind. In fact she only left when she was ordered to go out and experience the world for herself. She followed that command and enjoyed all that Arcadia had to offer for the next 16 years.
When rumors reached her ears of allegations made against her former mistress Yavina hurried back to her side, but she was too late. Her mistress had fallen victim to the scheming of a political rival and lost her life in the process. Saddened and enraged, Yavina prepared to take vengeance but was stopped by her former master, who was yet alive at the family’s keep in central Amarante. With Yavina’s help he navigated the Alnorian bureaucracy and legal system to keep his late wife’s estates from falling into the hands of her enemies. Following that hollow triumph Yavina retreated to the countess' keep with her master where she, along with a few other servants, stayed on as attendants and confidantes.
Nearly one thousand years have passed since then, and her master has long since shuffled off this mortal coil. Yavina still lives in the old keep, whose outside has fallen into disrepair, and keeps her vigil over the crypt where her master and mistress are laid to rest. During that time she had extensively studied her mistresses' works and notes and has developed into a powerful sorceress in her own right. Yavina has not interacted with the outside world in a long time and feels mostly apathetic towards it, but will not hesitate to defend her old masters’ household against intruders seeking plunder.
Ophanim (OH-fah-nim) are the messengers of the heavens -- their efforts maintain contact between realms and keep them up-to-date on news. It’s a task with little glory in it, but the Chariots of Fire don’t mind. They love their jobs.
An adult ophan (OH-fan), regardless of her actual age, looks like a human girl ranging in age from preteens to mid-teens. Her hair and eyes can be any color found among humans while her skin ranges from ruddy to dark brown, often with freckles. She also has a pair of feathery or fiery wings sprouting from her back. An ophan’s most striking feature is her wheels. An ophan sits at the center of one or more seemingly metallic spinning rings, each of which has many eyes lining its rim, with a diameter slightly greater than her wingspan. An ophan is born with one wheel, and she gains more as she grows in knowledge and power. The eldest and greatest ophanim have nine wheels. Because the wheels are spiritual appendages an ophan can dismiss them into an incorporeal state, but beings who can perceive spirits or auras can still see them. An ophan can always see through the eyes on her wheels; she can see in the dark and has 360° vision in both the horizontal and vertical planes. While her wheels are manifested an ophan can perceive spirits and auras, and some learn to see through invisibility.
The greatest powers of the Chariots of Fire are those that directly tie into their function as messengers. Ophanim are the fastest creatures in the sky of the mamono world -- they can fly at over half the speed of sound, and they have enough stamina to maintain that velocity for up to an hour at a time with no ill effects that a hot meal and a good night’s sleep wouldn’t fix. Ophanim also have faster reflexes than those of werecats, and their airborne maneuverability surpasses that of hummingbirds. They perfectly remember any message they have been charged to carry even decades later, though they forget quickly upon delivery. Ophan elders can compartmentalize their minds so as to hide private information from mind readers. Reading surface thoughts won’t defeat this measure; retrieving a message hidden in this manner is impossible without risking contact with the angel’s subconscious.
Because their duties as messengers often take them away from home every ophan expects to share a husband. In fact it’s rare for an ophan to be a man’s first wife; it’s more common for one to invite herself into an existing marriage. She energetically woos both the man and his wife (or wives) by bringing souvenirs and treats from faraway places. She makes a point of conversing with each member of the family she aspires to join, including any children, to endear herself to them before she makes her move. She also freely offers and/or accepts sexual favors during this courtship period. By the time the ophan proposes marriage her prospective family has already grown to love her, and how much they miss her when she’s gone is exceeded only by how glad they are when she returns.
Name That Mamono: Sandalphon III (SAND-all-fahn)
Despite diplomatic relations between Arcadia and Asgard not being normalized the Lords have kept communication channels with the Isle of Angels open, and it is Sandalphon and her fellow ophanim who make that possible. Sandy -- none of the other angels call her that, but she hopes a human lover will -- carries messages to each of Arcadia’s capitals on a regular basis. Mostly she passes secret communiques to Elizabeth or Amarante and returns with replies. It says much about what sort of person Sandy is that reading those messages has never occurred to her, and this integrity makes her illustrious mother and grandmother proud.
Sandalphon is almost 1,000 years old and has received criticism from her superiors for being a workaholic, so in her over-reactive fashion she has decided that she needs a husband. She knows her messenger duties will frequently take her away from home, so her plan to make sure that her man isn’t left alone and unprotected is to share him with her squadmates. Now all she has to do is find a man on whom she, a tsundere cupid, a dandere valkyrie, and a bakadere sun bride can agree. Sandy hasn’t figured out that she’s the yandere in this mix (though her squadmates have), and she probably never will.
PUSSYBUS
Family: Succubus
Type: Fiend
Habitat: Urban areas
Disposition: Meek, devoted, submissive
Diet: Omnivorous; spirit energy
Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to magically create the perfect domesticated catgirls… but professor Echidna accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: Lewdium Y. Thus, the pussybi were born.
Pussybi are a common hybrid species that combines the traits of a werecat and a succubus. Aside from their cat ears and sleek, long succubus tails they otherwise have fully humanoid bodies. When it comes to physical and magical ability they got the short end of the stick, for they inherited the innate magical ability of a werecat and the physical prowess of a succubus. While they can give a werecat a run for her money when it comes to flexibility, they lack the paws, claws, strength, and speed of their feline kin. Furthermore, pussybi lack their succubus cousins’ aptitude for magic. At best they can cast a few basic eromancy spells for use in the bedroom.
Like the kamaitachi pussybi always come in sets of three, though pussybi are always identical triplets. Pussybus triplets’ identicality goes far beyond that of normal triplets. Not only are their bodies identical down to the position of moles and other minute flaws, but their minds appear to be identical as well. In fact research has found some bizarre peculiarities that point to the unsettling conclusion that they might be a single mind sharing three individual bodies. These conclusions are further supported by their strong aversion to being separated from their sisters and their rapid mental and physical deterioration after one of the sisters perishes. This would show itself through, for example, erratic and poorly controlled motor skills and/or shared memory loss. In fact, once one sister dies the other two usually follow suit within a few years.
If a pussybus is knocked up then so are her sisters. Each gives birth to a single pussybus that is identical to the other two, forming a new pussybus triplet. In rare cases a sextuplet is born when all three pussybi are pregnant with non-identical twins that form a pair of identical triplets. There have even been a few exceptional cases of a nonuplet being born. Never has a pussybus trio given birth to a number of daughters that wasn’t a multiple of three.
Due to their meek and submissive behaviour, not only towards their husbands but also towards other mamono, many argue that pussybi lack agency or even true personalities. The fact that pussybi prefer to be put on a leash by their master or mistress does not help to dispel that notion. The pussybi themselves, however, argue that a life of servitude and devotion is the lifestyle that makes them happy. It should come as no surprise, then, that pussybi are usually employed in the service industry as maids, butlers, or tavern wenches.
Their lack of both magical ability and physical prowess has left them in a terrible position to defend themselves or their husband should they be forced to do so, therefore pussybi are reliant on more capable or influential mamono for their protection. Sadly, not everyone has their best interests in mind, and pussybi are easy targets for exploitation. However, this glaring weakness is also a strength, for their obedience, loyalty, and low maintenance has made them an attractive choice as token secondary wives for many a powerful mamono. Aside from using them as household servants they can be kept perfectly happy with meager leftovers, thereby allowing the mamono to keep up an image that she too shares the burden of not having a man to herself without having to make actual compromises with other wives.
When it comes to their bedroom preferences, here too pussybi prefer to take a submissive and subservient role. They especially like it when their partner(s) tell them exactly what they are going to do to them, how they are going to do it, and then do exactly that. Also pussy-play is well known to have them purring in no time.
Ironically the bedroom is also the most likely place for a pussybus to take on a dominant role, for if their partner’s (or partners’) desire is to play a more submissive role then the pussybus’s nature to serve that desire will overpower their usually meek and submissive behaviour.
Name That Mamono: Nip, Pip, and Zip
Nip, Pip, and Zip are a typical voluptuous pussybus triplet. They work as underpaid housemaids for a rich baroness from northern Elizabeth. They love and adore their mistress even though she is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Their mistress has to leave regularly for business, which makes Nip, Pip, and Zip sad, but thankfully when the mistress returns she is usually in the mood to be coddled by the triplet, who are eager to show their mistress exactly how much they missed her. Nevertheless, they can’t help but secretly wonder what would happen if one day their mistress returned with a husband by her side.
RUSALKA
Family: Zombie
Type: Undead
Habitat: Large ponds, lakes
Disposition: lustful
Diet: Men’s spirit energy
Rusalki are undead mamono that are created when a deceased human woman is reanimated by mamono mana while being submerged in a body of water. They retain the memories and intelligence they had in life, but their minds become flooded with thoughts of drowning men in pleasure. They largely keep their human appearance but their bodies are altered to be more alluring to men -- their breasts swell, their waists narrow, and their hips flare to give the typical rusalka a sensuously luscious body. Depending on how saturated with mamono mana the water is where they reside their skin is either a pale or dark grey with their hair being either blonde or black, and come nighttime their eyes glow with ethereal light.
They have excellent night vision and can see clearly in the depths of murky ponds or lakes. They can swim with unnatural grace and ease, having enhanced physical traits under water, but when separated from a body of water their bodies gradually wither to having the strength and speed of a typical human woman and only get weaker as they spend more time unsubmerged. As they get drier they become more easily fatigued. A rusalka needs to either consistently bathe in water to sustain her strength or have her husband regularly drench her body with his seed.
The light emanating from their eyes does much more than help them see in the dark however; that ethereal glow is also a display of their magic. Much like medusas they use their eyes to acquire a husband, but instead of turning men to stone rusalki use their eyes to hypnotize them, covertly implanting their minds with lewd thoughts of satisfying their carnal desires with the rusalka’s soft, wet, supple flesh… and due to the fact that their eyes glow in the dark, if a human stumbles across a rusalka at night her eyes will likely be the first things he'll see.
When a rusalka sees a man that strikes her fancy she will emerge from her watery lair and saunter up to him, seducing him with sultry motions and erotic promises as she draws near and openly inviting him to indulge his desires, all the while maintaining eye contact to magically drown his mind with thoughts of lust. When she reaches him she'll take his hands and place them on her body, eagerly encouraging him to cup and grope wherever he wishes while she works to relieve him of his clothes. Lust will eventually claim both of them, and the rusalka will drag him back to her lair where she will drown him in carnal pleasure.
Name That Mamono: Mira
Mira is a rusalka with pale grey skin but dark green hair and eyes, which is rare for her kind. The colour of her eyes is a keepsake from her life, and her hair changed to match after her death. She has a preference for freshwater ponds in tropical rainforests that also support water lilies, of which she greatly enjoys the smell.
Thanks to where she chooses to call home Mira doesn't always spend her time submerged in her pond like most rusalki do. Mira instead enjoys venturing away from her pond whenever there is a rainstorm; the constant heavy shower helps keep her wet, which in turn helps keep up her strength. Thanks to this wanderlust she has far more encounters with people than the typical rusalka would. However, since she is still severely limited in how far she can travel, Mira loves asking the people she comes across about where they come from, where they're going, and the world as a whole. She absolutely adores those who tell her of strange faraway lands.
Whenever she comes across a man that strikes her fancy she'll try to catch and hold his eyes, using her magic to subliminally coax out as many perverse thoughts as she can while sensually moving her luscious figure to tempt him closer. Once he reaches her Mira will take him by the hand and lead him back to her pond, promising that she'll indulge every deviant desire he has as soon as they get there if he agrees to follow.
