| They spent too much time staring into Osaka's black hole eyes. She is an event horizon of uncanny. Azumanga Daioh insists on maintaining a strong mundanity that it allows broken by only two or three things (one of which is Osaka, who is simultaneously vacant and somehow in tune with the universe); this makes its world feel very off at times, and is fairly unique. |

 On top of Azumanga Daioh already being a little weird, I think characters like Osaka and Chiyo's Dad contributed to the madness of the Azumanga community. They are both weird and memorable characters that can be inserted into any situation. Also, the anime has been with the internet for a long time. I've heard that Yotsuba is the unofficial mascot of 4chan, and since Azumanga Daioh was made by the creator of Yotsuba to, I imagine that it's associated with 4chan as well. (I may be wrong with that, however.) |

| CGDCT wasn't a thing back there. Fanservice as well, sorta. Therefore no existing ballast whatsoever. Practically the first of its kind. On top of that, it was funny, aged extremely well to the point it ranks still #1 in my book what this 'genre' concerns. Classic. |
