Pluto and Monster are worse than Astro Boy and Black Jack, both written by the true greatest mangaka.

A bit niche but I'll say Nobuyuki Fukumoto, creator of the Kaiji series. He definitely has a very unique artstyle, but the pacing and narration in his works is the best imo.

And yeah, Naoki Urasawa is up there as well.

Osamu Tezuka is a friggin legend. But Pluto is co-authored by him and Naoki Urasawa I think.

Pluto is an Astro Boy fan fiction written long after the creator of Astro Boy died. Wicked is popular too, but I wouldn't say it was coauthored by L. Frank Baum just because it's about Oz.

The ONE / Yusuke Murata combo is my favorite. Individually maybe Miura.

Heh, sorry. But this was a good one. -g-

OT: We had this question here multiple times over the years, so I won't repeat myself. If anyone cares out of whatever reason, he's featured in my profile. May he rest in peace, Tezuka and other greats as well.

MAL is far from being my primary site for literature, which is why I’ve stopped doing single-chapter updates. Baka-Updates and two French sites are far superior—more detailed, complete, and less restrictive. They're perfect for manga, light novel, and book collectors like me, making the process much less stressful and tiring. -g-

Shinichi Sakamoto

Kokou no Hito is a masterpiece and Innocent & Innocent Rogue are very good. He does superb storytelling and arguably has the best art in the entire medium.

The boring choice: Naoki Urasawa ;)
But I also really really like Shuzo Oshimi, though I understand it's not for everyone.

i think i answer this question once every year and my answer changes a bit every time.

ONE is a solid one (haha get it) Araki Hirohiko, Fukumoto Nobuyuki are personal favourites in terms of story
in terms of art, Boichi, Demizu Posuka, Miwa Shirow and the godly Yusuke Murata.

I have three : Naoki Urasawa (indeed the GOAT), Junji Itou and Osamu Tezuka.
Really loved all of what I read from them and always looking for new titles to read.

Naoki Urasawa & Junji Ito! Also, Rumiko Takahashi (currently reading some of her works - obv Inuyasha.. but wow, Mermaid Saga!). Other than this, there are individual mangas I really love, but specifically naming these mangakas, as I love their total body of work.

There are mangas I adore, and even think 'this is genius' and such, but the authors of these mangas never go on to do something else that I like so...
it means I can't really say there is such a thing for me as a "best mangaka", one that would be better than others.

Naoki Urasawa  is like Christopher Nolan of the manga world, talented but vastly overrated.
Witch Watch once referenced Nolan, but it hasn't yet referenced Urasawa as far as I know.
