How do you guys feel about Tokyo ghoul season 2, I see that some people think it’s really bad and not based off the manga. In my opinion I like season 2 even though it doesn’t go with the manga, it’s fire.

U don't have to force yourself to like it just because it's a sequal (what kinda reasoning is that anyway).

Well people say that it’s not good cause it’s not based off the manga, I don’t really care about that I just like how it picks up off on the fight in the end and how the story goes on.

I can understand how that was not a good reasoning I just didn’t put all the reasons I like it in there, all I’m saying is that people don’t like it cause it’s not based off the manga but that doesn’t really matter to me.

You see. Ishida himself asked the studio to be creative. Normally that would actually be very cool and since the aogiri Kaneki is a very good idea it would make for a very interesting change. The problem? The higher ups had requested 12 episodes per season. How the fuck could they possibly write an original story and conclude it in just 12 episodes. So the problem is that they never had the time necessary to flesh out this arc. They even cut the entire final battle with Arima because they had no time (not that they could have squeezed the original story in 12 episodes without cutting stuff). So in a way this worked both in favour and against them. I like this season but I can’t deny that it kinda fucked up the anime. But I’d love to see a more fleshed out version of the aogiri Kaneki arc. It has potential

I didn't read the manga so I quite enjoyed it, although some of the scenes are a bit curious like ayato vs kaneki

Sorry if it's confusing, because I use translate

I've never read the manga, so I can actually talk about it without comparing it with the manga. Although the anime is considered as season 2, it doesn't feel like an actual sequel. Like there's no reason for the mc to make certain choices that he made in the anime. None of the important parts are actually picked upon either. So I consider this as an experiment that failed miserably.

I watched the anime first before reading the manga and at first I was like season 2 wasn’t bad so I was like a 7/10.
Then I read the manga and like half of the important parts were cut out and just generally interesting things like rize’s backstory .
I would like an ova on rize backstory but that’s just never gonna happen

Same same. I wasn’t really hyper critical of this season, I still thought it was good.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

Many people didn't like it because it's way too different from the manga. Because how come Kaneki now wants to join an evil organization that just tortured him hours ago?

I heard a rumor (I don't have any source so it's not really trustworthy) that apparently Ishida, the mangaka, wanted to do a "What if" type of thing with the second season to see what would've happened if Kaneki joined the Aogiri Tree. But it didn't really work out for me

I think as far as the anime goes, excluding the manga this was the highest point. I personally really liked √a, but could understand why some people would be disappointed with it. It still was miles ahead in quality over what came after it though, I wouldn't have minded if they left it after and didn't adapt RE at all.

My thing is they didn’t follow the manga in s2 but then in :re they started following the manga again and the anime ended up not making sense unless u had read the manga already

I didn't mind it until I read the manga, at which point I realised on how much worse root A is. The second half of tokyo ghoul is arguably the best and most compelling part of the whole series, and the anime butchered it. It skipped some of the best moments- kaneki vs arima, kaneki vs ayato, amon's arata quinque and kaneki and hide's final interaction. It also missed out on loads of great character development and reduced kaneki's growth to 1 dimensional edginess.

If you like root A read the manga, and you'll understand why it sucks so much.

The plot made no sense. The soundtrack and story are good but from a narrative standpoint it’s absolutely mediocre. Season 1 was miles better.

yh i liked it. It’s not bad just because it wasn’t the same as the manga. I would rate it a 7 but purely because the last episode was 10/10 i gave it a 10 xD

I didn’t like any season of the Anime at all 😅 i watched it all through since people told me it will get good. Then at the last episode i realized that the series just wasn’t for me since it never got entertaining ever.

I also enjoyed TG season 2 very much , unknowing that it didn't followed the manga for me the TG √A was 9/10 but as soon as I read the manga of Tokyo ghoul and came to know about how much good plot and scenes the anime missed , I was really very dissapointed and this dissapointed increased as I kept watching season 3 and 4.
But after all this mess Tokyo Ghoul will always be my favourite anime atleast S1and 2
I just forget the day I enjoyed and spent watching TG. 👍

I liked it and gave it an 8/10 but I rated something 1/10 before I watched this so I think that might've slightly inflated my rating for this. The ending of the season is one of my favourite moments in anime and it was overall pretty enjoyable. The only thing I dislike is how they didn't animate Ken vs Arima

Did they not have the battle in :re? I haven't read the manga to know if they battle twice, but if it was only once then it's definitely animated

I am now starting the 12th episode. I can say without a doubt it’s absolutely rushed - but it’s not horrible.
I think it’s easier because I haven’t read the manga - so I’m not on the “it sucks compared to the book” side. (Which is always a horrible side to be on because very rarely does something compare to the source).

HOWEVER - I love what this season did on making me cry for EVERYONE. It had my heart hurt for literally EVERYONE involved. I saw everyone’s humanity, feelings, goals, achievements. If the manga does the same I might even go ahead and try to get my hands on it.
