| I haven't usually been surprised. You can usually spot if a shounen is written by a woman, based on the characters. They have a lot more depth to them than you usually find in shounen manga. And if I find myself thinking the shounen male lead is cute/adorable/"d'aww"-worthy, that's also a sign. Dramatic moments tend to have precedence over action. And the action is usually for a specific goal, like "I have to save my friends from the monster!" instead of "I fight you because I want to become stronger!" or "I want to defeat this guy so I can be the boss of the block!" My first manga was FMA, and right in the inside cover she draws herself as a cow wearing panties, with a bow on its head. Why would I not think she was a woman? After reading DGM, I found out, and it made sense. By the time Blue Exorcist came out, I could call it. And the list needs Takahashi Rumiko! And I've heard the "males" mentioned are actually women. Some mis-information got trolled around for a while concerning Motomi and Tanaka. |
