is knowledge of the other stuff in the franchise needed?

At best, I've played RE1 (director's cut) a looooong time ago and recently played Code Veronica and the remakes of RE2 and RE3 when they came out for PC. I tried playing RE4, but didn't get very far (got stuck in the first village where everyone swarms you lmao). I also watched the first live action RE movie when it came out in the early 2000s.

Is that enough RE "knowledge" to enjoy this mini series?

I think you should at least watch the other CGI anime first.

But if you're familiar with typical RE cheesiness then I think you're good to go.

This is set before Damnation and Vendetta. So really if you're gonna watch them all, you'd only need to watch Degeneration before this one.
