So I was like you as well and looked into the matter more and on wiki it says that the very first volume and chapter of the manga was released in December 26 of 2006 (anime started Oct 6 of 2006) so the anime is still the original source material especially because cuz the anime and the script for its ideas was being made few years before its release in fall 2006 and the manga was probably started to be made in august 24 of 2006 which makes sense cuz mangas are easier to write and make rather than an entire animated show.   |

Cowboy Bebop , Neon Genesis Evangelion & Samurai Champloo (and many more) did it too. |
