Alternate Ending

The last few episodes really soured my impression of the show and while the crew's journey through the ocean and desert were good, I didn't feel like it added much. So here's an alternate ending I cobbled together as part of my head canon, because I'd hate to see so much good stuff go to waste because anime writers once again couldn't resist getting preachy.

I detailed my other thoughts in the discussion topic for episode 52.

The end result of my edit isn't all that optimal with respect to keeping the momentum of the climax, so I'd be very interested to know what you think of my attempt. Of course, this ending would leave the alien thread open but I think that's a small price to pay for avoiding the cliche alien backstory.
