My review of Death Note, spoilers obviously

Up until L's death I was in love with the show, I would have considered it one of my favourite pieces of media because of L and Light's chemistry and rivalry. It was ingenious and well thought out, an example of the Sherlock Holmes vs. Moriarty relationship done perfectly. But as soon as L died the writing degraded and the show went downhill ever since. Characters we never knew of until then were brought in and the writers expected the audience to accept that these knew characters were better and smarter than L, even though it makes no sense. The writing from L's death onward baffles me. It almost seems like there were new writers after L died, since Light became dumber, characters made illogical decisions, and plot holes became visible. Why this was decided upon, I do not know. If they wanted to keep the consistency of the writing, L should have lived longer and the death of L or the death of Light by L's hand should have been the end. But at this point, I am not surprised the quality went down the drain after L's death.

Maybe it's because I'm mad, I have to vent, or because I have a point. At this point I don't know for sure why I'm writing this review. Either way, it should be agreed upon that when L died the show's legacy died. When people talk about this show I always hear them mention L and almost never talk about after L's death, and for good reason as well. The show was on track to be one of the best anime ever made. But because there are 12 episodes after L's death, it can never live up to that legacy ever. This is what happens when writers write themselves into a hole. They can never get out of it and suffer because of it.
