Do you have to watch this movie before seaon 2 or can you safely skip it without missing anything important?

Just finished the movie in preparation for season two. It does introduce a character we’ve yet to see in season one but from what I’ve heard the movie isn’t canon, so you’re not gonna miss out a lot by skipping it.

I'm not LN reader but I think you should watch the movie after S2 because in the movie Tatsuya & Miyuki already know Angelina (Lina), that means they met her before. This is why I think the events of the movie come after S2.

Yeah, i'd wait till after watching season two.

it's way better to finish season 2 before watching the movie since it takes place after s2, still you can watch it without any problems, you'll feel that you're missing something tho since some of the characters in the movie were already introduced in season 2 and they don't reintroduce them as you are expected to know about them

A little late to the discussion, but in the Mahouka universe, this would take place after season 2 of the anime. One of the characters introduced in the movie is introduced in the events of season 2. But honestly, having just watched the movie, this doesn't really spoil anything important plot-wise for season 2.

This movie and the associated LN that was written for it (I think the movie script was modified into a light novel by the author but don't quote me on this since it's been awhile so my memory is a bit fuzzy) is not canon in a sense.

The LN associated with the movie is not part of the official 32 volumes of the LN. If you like Mahouka, I highly recommend reading the LN's...at least read till volume 16. Big plot bombshell is dropped at volume 16.

Man, just read the MTL Japanese-to-English volume 32 last week. Can't believe this series has completed...(new series is supposed to come out that continues the story though...so excited for that)!
I say goodbye unto you,
And with this parting,
My most beautiful dream dies inside me...
But I tell you goodbye,
For the rest of life,
Even if I spend all life thinking about you.

Well you can watch the movie before Season 2 but I wouldn't recommend doing so considerjng you will find the events to be a bit odd (in timeline).

The events of the movie took place after the graduation ceremony & beginning of new semester, which happens to be 10 into the Episode 11 of Season 2. Better watch it after that time (stop the episode 11 at 9 min mark & complete movie first if you insist of perfect chronology). I personally watched after Episode 11.

Yo, how come MAL doesn't list this movie as spinoff for S2 instead of S1?

This movie is a sequel to S2 not S1.

Does anime DB even notice this? Anyone submit a request yet?

I like that detail you could notice at the beginning of the movie.
When Lina arrives at the airport before being sent back on a mission, she's got a luggage cart filled with the same stuff that you see her leave with at the end of season 2.

I did as said from the last posts : Watched Season 2 Visitor Arc until the end of part A of episode 11 (approx. 12min mark). Watched the movie completely, and went back on episode 11 for part B. Was really smooth, everything was in order, thanks everybody :)

So how was it that the movie came out first before the second season? I mean, years ahead too.
