That was a weird conclusion. They both abandoned the planet in the end and sought change elsewhere.

They basically admitted their defeat, i.e. that things are as they ought to be, seeing themselves as the next step in an endless circle that starts life on other planets until those are wiped out as well etc.

I feel like that was an opt-out compared to spreading their powers across the planet to make it a norm. If all of humanity had that power, maybe they could've even stopped the "inevitable" destruction of their planet when the time came.
