Violet Evergarden and Zankyou no Terror both made me cry pretty hard.
If you don't mind BL, then you should also give Hybrid Child a try. It's only 4 episodes.
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me.

I would recommend the anime movies A Silent Voice and In This Corner of the World. They both got me crying!

I definitely cried with Your Name.

If you really really wanna cry, Ookami kodomo no ame to yuki and Grave of the fireflies are guaranteed tear jerkers.

I agree, Violet Evergarden is great for crying and Zankyou no Terror is a great watch.

Grave of the Fireflies. Sad, realistic, and heart-wrenching. It's an older movie though, if you're okay with that.

I think this year's A Place Further than the Universe can be a good choice for that, it gets pretty emotional. I know I cried during various episodes, especially during its second half.

As others said, movies like Grave of the Fireflies and Your Name are famous for making people cry. I would add Junkers Come Here to that list. It touches different themes and it's more kids oriented (though not that much), but it can totally make you cry.

Mushishi Zoku Shou 2nd Season - Episode 7 (Azure Waters).

No prior information needed that you can't get from the show's synopsis. In the worst case you will have wasted only about 20 minutes.

Kobato and Steins;Gate both have points that made me tear up.
Summertime days, passing gently
Sunlight, leading to an encounter;
Dreams that don't want to end
Continue onwards toward the next day
While she waits in the air.

This is an old movie that I watched when I was younger. But it was so emotionally impactful to the point that I still remember crying over it till this day.

It teaches about family, hardships, sacrifice, and miracles. But surprisingly it's also very funny, lighthearted, and warm. Depending on your location, this movie will be PERFECT to watch during winter & nearing Christmas/new year.

Little Busters

It's an anime revolving around friendship and how to overcome one's past. The guy who wrote this anime also wrote several masterpieces (Angel Beats, Clannad, Charlotte, etc.) You should watch this anime, but make sure to watch both seasons. You won't regret it!
