| Kumiko marrying Tetsuo instead of Machizou lends the final chapter a bitter-sweet flavor, given the preceding events. Machizou had a genuine, believable romance with Kumiko, while Tetsuo merely had a lifelong closeness and waited too long to confess his love. All that said, the marriage was absolutely the correct decision, and the ending would have been worse otherwise. |
