What are the Plot related episodes of Gintama?

I watched gintama till episode 250 and so far i loved it. In fact its r8 now one of my fav Anime. But i think some episodes are really unnecessary and some of them are totally based on Japanese culture. And i don't know much about their culture :p. So i would like if u guys tell me which episodes to watch/skip. I really want to get to the shinsengumi farewell arc as fast as possible XD. Thank you

The story is overarching, so you might come across important details even in episodes that don't seem relevant to the plot. Besides, Gintama is primarily a comedy, so you might as well focus on that and less on the plot. Continue as you have been, because you'll miss out on some hilarious episodes. Just take your time and enjoy it all :)

But the reason why Shogun Assassination arc and Farewell Shinseguemi were so powerful was because we spent time with the characters in the comedy epsiodes
