I think I miss a lot of things in this series(if not the whole concept) and I can't find any decent analysis via google(a lot of Seto Kaiba...). I really enjoy Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei and would like to enjoy another work of the man too.

I enjoy the first few episodes but the second half is kind of out of place for me and I can't figure out what this series try to be.

You can't enjoy this, because it was never meant for this. It was only meant to be placed in the favorites of edgelords.

The episodic directing for the first half is phenomenal and the series generally has a very good control of its atmosphere. It was the overarching plot that ultimately didn't resonate with me. It's a respectable series and worth existing. True, maybe it was never meant to be a masterpiece, but I still applaud the series for being unique.
Signature is too edgy for me.

I can feel the atmosphere throughout the series too. I agree that it is done quite unique. But I find the main plot weak especially toward the ending. My expectation for this series maybe too high or I have too few relatable topics.

The first half is the best part, it has a great atmosphere and builds the world well, and sets up interesting themes.
Like Flevalt said, where it becomes plot based is where it falls greatly.

If you still need to figure out a base reference or concept, look up transhumanism, this serie is exploring heavily that topic.

Also having a good science fiction background could help too, many themes and tropes used here are quite frequent in the sci-fi genre.
Some authors to look up as reference on the concepts and themes can be: Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, instead Robert A. Heinlein fits well for the adventure-sci-fi.

This serie doesn't spend too much time explaining everything, it actually doesn't explain anything, aside the pre opening intro, you're supposed to come into it with some basic understanding of it beforehand.
If you're not a fan of science fiction you'll likely have an hard time keeping up with the pace and all the themes being used.

Themes, which usually are limited or dragged down by the plot in most sci-fi works, while in Kaiba, at least in the first half, this is full theme exploration, it starts with a premise and explores how far it can get from there.
It's fully possible to enjoy this, and also understand this, but this isn't an easy show.

The first 7 episodes were masterpieces of episodic storytelling. Varied, explored mature themes without resorting to torture porn, and had some of the best worldbuilding in all of anime. The last third of this show is a simply average shonen esque "Save the world" plot that feels vapid. The ending is also unsatisfactory.

I read sci fi, and also watch many related sci fi movies and series ... This is not a new topic, is over used the idea of overachiving with a king avive all IS just lame ... He knows everything since EVER , WoW . We didnt miss anything, they just love to make their little psychodelic anime to make It look deeper than It was... Why he has an unbreakable body ? Why the King is King ? Does all the Royal family create manipulate power related memory beans ? Are they gods ? Many questions
