| I liked Watari as well. While I loved the show, it did generally leave the back stories open for everyone but the two leads. Apparently the studio was focusing on the main story, with everyone else being well-placed spice. We got gists of them, like the bathroom scene you mentioned, but not much follow-thru. |

| This frustrated the hell out of me!!! I really really liked this show (8/10) but I saw 2 problems. The first is the slightly slow pacing. They duplicated so many flashbacks... but with different animation so it obviously wasn't a budget issue. Ex. that first piano competition that Arima doesn't even get past the prelims took like three episodes and it could have been done in two. But if they weren't going to cut down the episode list they could easily have stuck in some more content. Which brings me to problem number two. They easily could have developed Watari a lot more and Emi a little more. Watari was outlined to be such a great character. There was so much room for growth there. Fighting it out for kaori. Trying to understand tsubaki's relationship with him (I mean tsubaki is always talking to that other girl and not him... Understanding his back story with Arima... Oh well. I would love a season two with takashi and emi at the same school with the two of them being rivals while also getting closer and trying to balance a competitive-cooperative spirit while they each aim to best arima. |

| Did someone just mention Watari? Ryouta Watari? Watari is love, Watari is life. Well, for a better explanation (from me), yeah, I quite agreed with you that his character is quite 'underdeveloped'. Since, he is both one of the main and supporting characters of the series. But other than that, he is one of the best anime guys who is a top-notch supporting figure (especially for Kousei). But still, I don't like the fact that he's such a flirtatious although I know that since on the first time he met with Kaori, he surely likes her based on her appearance first. But to be honest, he is my most favorite out of all the characters in the series and the best bro you could ever have in "Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso". |

| Just my 2 cents... probably the unpopular opinion around, but I'll just go over it anyway... My memories could be a bit fuzzy since I finished this on January this year. IMO, the show would be better without Watari. Long story short, Watari is a needless addition to the show, the show would be better off without him. |

Thank you for telling me about that. I've also seen this one gif featuring Ryouta Watari when he was crying. I haven't seen the episode yet but right now, I were watching the series. If only the author didn't make his character as a playboy (but, that's what I'm thinking, not sure about the others, though) maybe his character can be developed more than before, I guess? |
