Ramadan is only 67 days away! Okay, that's over two months, but it's been on my mind a lot since I'll be spending it alone again.

The purpose of Ramadan isn't to feast on nice food, quite the opposite, but we all have a favourite item on an iftar table, as simple or sophisticated as it may be. Mine is probably Harira. What's yours? I'll try it out this Ramadan iA.

Honestly, dates. Since I don't get one outside Ramadan, my joy knows no bounds when I get dozens of them all at once.

Harira looks really nice a.k.a something-I-wont-get-to-eat.

I don't like dates, maybe because there are plenty of them here. Anyways, the things I like for iftar are summer fruits like mango, watermelon and pakodas etc.

Or maybe you're just an ungrateful brat.

Quit being a bitter old man, @Trance.

I have dates on almost daily basis. I guess I won't be trying out any Pakistani Ramadan delights, unless someone with more elaborate taste chimes in.

@ElFlapper what are pakodas?

Indian-pakistani snack. Pakoras are created by taking one or two ingredients, such as onion, eggplant, potato, spinach, or chili pepper. They are dipped in a batter made from gram flour and then deep-fried. Can be made from onion, potato or cheese.

Oh I've heard of those before, I should have figured pakodas was just a typo. Someone once complained to me about their host being such a cheapskate they offered them bread pakoras lol.

Potato and cheese pakoras sound sweet. I'll try making them and report back... in Ramadan... if anyone is still around.

I think my last Ramadan consisted entirely of Harira soup.. that, and Sambosa... maaaan, what I would give for a little more variety. Nothing gets me more than having a lonely Ramadan, it really is a familial month.

The last two Ramadans I've spent entirely by myself. InshaAllah I can spend this one with my family.

Speaking of Pakistani food, there's this place called Copper Chandni here that specializes in South Asian food. What would be a good dish to order on Ramadan? If I'm spending the month with my fam, I'm definitely gonna try some stuff out.

Oh well, I'm not familiar with the Paki delicacies too much (I'm a simple man) but - wait for it - biryani is pretty popular among people. Bombay Biryani, Sindhi Biryani, whatever biryani - just get one which looks the best to you.

And... @BinarrySquirrel will tell you more.

I thought living on a harira soup and 10 pcs of sambosa each day for an entire month was a dead giveaway, but if it's not clear enough: I'm a simple man myself. A very simple one might I add.. lol

Love biryani dude, but is that really something you'd have on Iftar? To me, rice is something I'll usually have on Suhoor. I'm not against the idea though, any food is good food, and all this talk about biryani and sambosa is making me hungry haha.

Who are you?

Like I've never seen you. Why should I invite you?

So far, it's a pretty dead community. Nonetheless, welcome.

Biryani and Pakodas fo laif well that and Jalebi because sweets are love.

There's my 2nd favs samosas and kachori as well but since the weather may stay 40ish C for the whole month of Ramadan so maybe I won't be able to enjoy them as much as i did before.
Then there's Dahi bhale and Fruit chat if you want something that isn't much oily or heavier on the appetite.

Man all this talk really gets me hyped for Ramadan.
