Badass Anime

Do you think Highschool DxD is just fanservice or has an actual story?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for an anime with the action and supernatural genres. I want an anime where the main character is nice and innocent but either starts out as or works out to becoming OP.

By nice and innocent, I mean main characters like Issei from Highschool DxD, Naruto, Luffy, Goku, Gon from Hunter x Hunter, etc. Basically, the well known shounen main characters. I haven't been able to find another anime that has just that epicness of the main character powering up because someone they cared about got messed up.

I haven't updated my list in a little while but some example anime of what I'm looking for would be:
-DBZ
-Naruto/Naruto Shippuden
-One Piece
-HunterxHunter
-FMA (Less so this one)
-Highschool DxD
-Danmachi
-Fairy Tail
-Zero no Tsukaima

I'm not that interested in the main character being female (sorry feminists) and I don't like older/too dark anime. Especially dark anime. I want something with teh atmosphere of the anime above.

Thanks, Joe, though I think AoT and Tokyo Ghoul are a bit dark (also I watched AoT). Also, I watched Blue Exorcist and Danmachi = Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no Machigatteiru Darou ka.
