What was the reason for Ed growing out his hair

I know that this may seem dumb asking the reason for hair in an anime. but Edwards hair choice is defiantly not... conventional to this world, other have hair pulled back but into more real world hairstyles. and he only grew out his hair after the transmutation. so was there some significance to it that i missed

I don't believe it's ever really explained. I doubt there's any deep meaning behind it, but who knows. I think it's just his character design. The only thing mentioned having to do with the meaning of his hair is the way he purposely makes one antenna of hair stick out in the front to make himself appear taller, lol.

It's just his hairstyle, and it's partly used to show that he's actually similar to his father. Hohenheim noticed and said, "We have the same look," when he was wearing it in a ponytail. At the very end he starts wearing it in a ponytail instead of a braid, and I think this kind of shows that he finally stopped resenting Hohenheim.

As for the fact that it's short when he was a kid, artists often do that to make the characters look slightly different at different times. Riza Hawkeye had really short hair in the flashbacks to Ishval.

There is no paticular reason for his hair altough there is alot of symbolism throughout the entire series
