You don't need to do anything in particular. When there's a connection problem, Taiga will just keep your list updates queued in the History page and synchronize them when it's possible. You may also disable auto-sync from Tools menu, after which Taiga will send your updates to MyAnimeList only if you manually click the Synchronize button.

P.S.: The sentence you quoted is from an older version of Taiga, where there was a "log in" button.
