Does the device output audio from her ears? Because in episode 5, Murakami had to lean forward to her face to listen what she had to say.

This also brings up another question. Can she change the volume output with her device? Because as a viewer, I've found that she speaks on the same volume throughout the show, so she possibly can't whisper.

That device has too many flaws to begin with.. I mean, how can express her emotions through it? Also, she is typing way to slow, if we count how many sentences she says. Although, on your answer, you should rewatch episode 2, a scene where that device screams like a goat.

they've got metal bolts in their necks and magic powers and alien slugs in their bodies and they melt when the bolt is taken out and you're asking how does she change the volume on her voice synthesizer thingy? ;)
