| I like both of these animes'. I feel like the biggest difference is that Shugo Chara has the charas, and sugar sugar rune does not have any chibi characters (exept for their familiars :). And Amu is like 'a normal girl' and Chocolat and Vanilla are witches. I love witches so ofc i love Sugar Sugar Rune. Chocolat and Vanilla is the opposite of each other. Vanilla is quiet and"scared" and Chocolat is crazy and she always says *I'll whup your butt!*. So they come to the human world and try to collect hearts, the one with the most hearts will become queen. There are some romance ofc, because they need to collect hearts. First of all, the love is childish (its not deep).. they are in elementary school. So yes i feel like there are some filler episodes that may be childish, but at the same time they are funny and cute. Just like chugo chara episodes where Amu needs to help children who loose faith in themselves,Chocolat tries to cheer people up more than she likes to collect hearts. Now comes the important part! (spoilers) Pierre is the male lead. He's the cocky type just like Ikuto. Though Pierre is blond. He is not like Tadase as he is much older, he's older than Chocolat just like Ikuto is older than Amu. The thing is, he tries to charm Chocolat but if he takes her heart she cannot return to the magical world and she wont have magic anymore!! And there is a war in the magical world where the Ogres (dark magicians) wants to take over the kingdom... Guess who is the Ogres leader!!!??? Yea Pierre... So this is more "mature love" as you call it. This is what is worth watching. you'll see the past of Chocolat, Vanilla and Pierre. Plus there are other cool characters in this series. There is Rockin' Robin, Chocolats grandpa, Soul and Woo and Waffle. You have to find out for yourself how the love story of Chocolat Pierre and Vanilla turns out :3 And the war. So there is a lot of comedy in this show and i love it cause it's funny, cute and i love the design for the characters and the places. It's so Witchy! And actually there is a lot going on, the fight against the Ogres, the Queen contest, personal problems and so on! Also, yes there is a chara change xP From normal school girls to witches and there is catchy music :D I never wanted it to end so if you are into moe and magical girls it is definitely worth seeing.
