Do i miss something?

Hey,(first,sorry for my english cause i'm french)
I currently watch hoozuki no reitetsu and i like it,i like the ost especially,i feel like this anime is kind of relaxing and i love watching it before sleep even though i feel like there are too much japanese references that occidentals like us doesn't understand so we miss a lot of jokes.
But I have a question,i feel like i miss something in this anime in order to fully understand the jokes,i mean i feel like it's a very hard humor but once you get it you will die of laugh.
Can someone help me? :)

Its more of Japanese cultural humor. If you can understand that then you'll get it. If not you won't.

Yes but how can i understand something so away of my culture,i saw a lot of american fans say that they laughed hard a this anime,how did they do?I wanna laugh at it too :p

thats because they watched so much anime so they can understand but that just a some of them, not at all of them, i am argentinian, my main language is spanish, and i can laugh most of them, but thats all. im pretty sure you can laugh like me, because not all of the jokes are based in jap culture. Even more, some of them are about common sense

If you're familar somewhat with tropes and references in anime or even a little familar with mythology, then you'd probably would REALLY enjoy HnR.
