I think most FMA fans would say the manga's storyline is better..
Well....
#1: ....... Cause Ed doesn't die............
#2: Alphonse will PROBABLY return to his body, PERMANENTLY
#3: Winy is treated more as a main character in the manga...
...... and other several reasons....
PLUS:
The manga is SO funny!! and at the same time, emotional it also introduces plenty of new characters. And it has that great shounen manga style!!!! XD

Well, Mangastoryline of course. :D It's not emo, the explanations are better (they make sense! xD), the villian is cooler, the setting fits the Manga better (this second world-thing was so bad...), really awesome new characters, great character development,...

Arakawa just totally wins over the producers of the first Animeseries. :]

Manga storyline! Eventhough I only watched the first adaptation up to episode 17. I dropped it, because it started diverting too much and I thought that was a shame. D:

So it's kinda funny to read your replies, because it has alot of things in it that I didn't know about. Like the Mustang thing. Lol WHUT? D: And Ed dying..
The first anime has been spoiled so much for me that now it's not even worth watching it anymore. XD

Also.. there's one character in the first anime that's completely shunned over, but has a very prominent role in the manga (so probably also in Brotherhood) I won't spoil it, because that would be a sin. XD Let's just say that the plottwist was so EPIC, I almost fell out of my chair and immediatly texted my friend going OMG!OMG!OMG! *spazz* XD

All you need in life is a sick mind and someone to share it with.
Care to share?

I prefer the manga although I'm outraged with what happened to Roy. O_o

I liked the anime and I think it's cool. What is not cool, by the way, was omitting some important characters like Ling Yao. Anyway, before Brotherhood, I actually watched the first series like, five times, which meant that I actually did enjoy it despite the difference in the storyline (and characters).

Although I love the first anime, I have always loved the manga more. FMA has always been a favorite of mine. I tell people that if they love the anime, they will love the manga even more. I have only seen two episodes so far (that's all that's been aired on adult swim so far), but my boyfriend is already liking this one more than the first. He says it explains more and really has him intrigued. We shall see if he likes it more. I am so excited to see that they are trying to keep Brotherhood as close to the manga as possible instead of changing a lot that they did in the first one. I guess you could think of the first anime as kinda like a alternate reality or something. I shall keep watching and reading until the very end, its always fun comparing the manga to the anime. I am also happy to see that some of the characters from the manga are going to be brought to Brotherhood and hopefully explain more of the story and background of the characters. One big thing that I was not happy about with the first anime was how it was forgotten that Maria Ross was a suspect in the death of Hughes and they really didn't do anything about it, it made no sense. Sorry, I rambled on longer than I thought I would, just very happy and excited for Brotherhood. I just hope it doesn't disappoint...

Definitely the manga storyline. The first series felt incomplete and the emotions weren't there. The manga story line felt complete and had plenty of emotional moments, Brotherhood also had better art, Voice acting, action, and music than FMA.

Manga, it can be more detailed and often easier to understand things in the anime you would not understand.
