@wiratama12 Yeah at first I didn't mention it despite being aware that something MDUD related will air tomorrow since it looked like a pretty irrelevant recap with voice actors being here but now that it's about to be live streamed on Aniplex Youtube (didn't expect that at all) and limited till October 4th it seems... Weird ? We'll see but Japan is notorious for hyping people up like this to just showcase anime merch at the end lol...
Official MDUD anime account also tweeted about this few hours ago : https://x.com/kisekoi_anime/status/1971516434171011477
Video Link just in case : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYaKlAMd2bs
If nothing happens tomorrow (extremely likely) I'd say don't expect anything MDUD related 'till Blu Rays are all released (in 6 months) especially since Manga is over, this franchise is basically dead over now without anime lol

@Saizo32 Looking in YouTube and X official account about this announcement, many replies want new sequel, but yeah I need to level down my expectations until I watch it next day. If anything doesn't happen, we need to see half years later after all volumes of Blu-ray disc for S2 were released (this is what happened when S2 announced). Hopefully Umehara team already in final stage for production of Bocchi the Rock S2 and Samurai Elusive S2.

@wiratama12 Another thing that makes a serious announcement very unlikely in this livestream is why would they create an anime original ending out of nowhere instead of following the Manga like always (Manga just show the final cosplay right after the Akira reveal as a cliffhanger and only Gojo leaves the Coffin group cosplay) if a season 3 would be announced literally one week after the final ? I don't think anime fans would have complained about a cliffhanger if a sequel was announced just one week later, makes literally no sense lmao unless it's a movie like a lot of people theorized here.

Unsurprisingly there's no announcement in recent YouTube video at Aniplex Official account, the event mostly talk about VA experience in My Dress Up Darling, BUT at the end of event Hina Suguta (VA for Marin Kitagawa) said a questionable line when she said "see you on anime sequel". I mean is that we're given a spoiler that sequel almost certainly produced albeit no exact date? Yeah we need wait half years later. So far on all three romance anime made by Cloverworks who aired at Summer this year only Rascal Bunny Girl Senpai who got its finale sequel in movie format.

it WILL have new part. Maybe as movie or specials. It's hard to choose cause there're not enough chapters for full season, but enough for movie or some specials

They already started working on s2 when s1 ended. That's why we're able to get a new season rather quickly. I'd say there'd be one last movie. But there isn't any confirmation as of now. Cloverworks is great but taking too many projects at once would ruin them.

@Yamada_Jakkun Not true at all , season 2 production announcement was 6 months after the end of season 1 in late September 2022 and the MDUD's director went to work on a few EPs of Bocchi The Rock S1 during that time too as he is credited on EP8 as episode director, this show aired late 2022. Also... How is a 3 and half year wait "quickly" ? lmao , you can see here all the old threads where people complained about the complete lack of news between September 2022 and December 2024. I'd say they actually started working on season 2 in early 2023, that would make sense as the chapter they ended this season on (before cutting it with the anime only scene) also released officially in January 2023 (chapter 86) they have to work on the script first before starting production so they couldn't do it too early as the Manga didn't even have enough material when S1 ended.

@Saizo32 Ah that makes more sense actually. I should've checked the old threads. Thanks for clarifying. I listened to this : 28:00 They did say the karaoke scene was made 3 years ago. So it clicks with the info you provided. The radio itself is still continuing but i don't think they'd confirm official announcement for s3 there. They didn't seem to hint on it either so im not really hopeful.

Piromysl said: Characters saying "thanks for watching" after credits usually means no sequel. Or at least it is not currently planned. Yeah I know what you mean in this case. When they said that, I felt somehow both happy, sad and terrified all at the same time that this was the end of the adaptation. I truly hope that isn’t the case and this was simply put there as a potential stop gap in case a further adaptation doesn’t happen, and if it doesn’t, then this is a simple sweet little farewell from the cast. |

@Yamada_Jakkun Actually in Aniplex Official YouTube account there's video who talk about My Dress Up Darling had some hint about anime sequel At 23:29 Hina Suguta, the VA for Kitagawa Marin, said "see you on anime sequel". So yeah that's the only hint about season 3. Let's not forget in ED S2 there's Marin in Haniel outfit and OP S2 there's moment Marin eat burger who should happened in S3 or beyond chapter 86. Also keep in mind that both Samurai Elusive and Bocchi the Rock got season 2, the anime production team behind My Dress Up Darling is the same one who produced those two anime I mention before, both under production. The main director of My dress up darling also become director on one of episodes in Bocchi the Rock, the main writer of My dress up darling Yoriko Tomita is also the writer of Elusive Samurai, and one of the My dress up darling director on certain episodes Yusuke Yamamoto just got promoted become main director of Bocchi the Rock S2 (Yusuke Yamamoto directed some My Dress Up Darling episodes when the story swung heavily towards slice-of-life genre). So yeah the anime production team were very busy with other commitments right now. Perhaps once we know when Elusive Samurai and Bocchi the Rock got its airing schedule, then there's a huge chance My Dress Up Darling got anime sequel which would be the last one.

| @Yamada_Jakkun Yeah the Manga was VERY SLOW , like I said, no way they could've started directly after season 1 because director was busy with Bocchi the rock and by the time season 1 ended , the Manga just introduced Akira which is EP8 of season 2... They needed to wait for material to release , I still think the reason why season 2 happened is because the blu-rays sold incredibly well (10k first week which is CRAZY). Let's see how season 2 blu-rays do , I don't think they'll hit 10k again but if they somehow hit between 3k-5k (or more) I think it will be a good sign, Dandadan's blu-rays for example only sold 2k yet a sequel is confirmed (I know Science Saru and Cloverworks are not the same studio and Cloverworks's projects probably cost way more but still). By the way I actually think the radio continuing is the only good sign we have atm for a potential sequel tbh lol when season 1 ended this radio show was completely shut down 'till season 2 aired but for some reasons now they'll do it ONCE A MONTH ? after both the anime and Manga ended ? It's kinda suspicious... There's nothing to promote or sell anymore outside of blu-rays or anime merch so... wiratama12 said: Actually in Aniplex Official YouTube account there's video who talk about My Dress Up Darling had some hint about anime sequel At 23:29 Hina Suguta, the VA for Kitagawa Marin, said "see you on anime sequel". | @Saizo32 Did we get some data how much blu-ray sales for season 2? CMIIW but volume 7 (contains S2E1 and S2E2) just released 5 days ago, while volume 8(contains S2E3 and S2E4) already pre-sales promotion. I still wonder why they take down video at 4th October, did after that we got some another video or else, we need wait again. The radio show still broadcast also a good sign there's hope another sequel (surprised they immediately end it after S1 end), albeit only once a month update but no surprise since this radio hosted by Hina Suguta and Shota Ishige, VA behind Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo, they need to reduce the frequencies since both the host also had commitment in other projects. |

We have the official numbers now. MDUD/Sono bisque Vol.7 = Blu-ray : 4865 / DVD : 561 Aobuta/Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus Vol.1 = Blu-ray : 4006 / DVD : 539 Kaoru Hana/Bloom (Vol.1) = Blu-ray : 1366 / DVD : 505 Kaoru Hana/Bloom (Vol.2) = Blu-ray : 1374 / DVD : 341 Before someone says that seems low, remember that an insanely popular show like Dandadan who has a third season already planned only sold 2K of its Season 1 Volume 1 Blu-Ray + DVDs back in early 2025 : https://x.com/Dandadanverse/status/1886786718994481454 So yeah... At this point Aniplex would make a very weird decision by not green lighting a season 3/movie to finish this series, these numbers are actually very solid for a season 2 and it performed the best out of the three shows they broadcasted this summer, I know it isn't the crazy 10k Blu-Rays sold first week that MDUD did back in its first season but still, very good numbers for a second season all things considered.

| @Saizo32 Let's not forget My Dress Up Darling also pretty popular in Prime Amazon Japan. In era where anime also can be watch in online streaming platform, we also need consider data from streaming device. I remember Volume 1# sells were skyrocket due "fan service" in S1E2, but overall S2 pretty popular based on streaming platform and BD/DVD sales. In the end it depends the team behind My dress up darling when they had empty schedule to made S3 since they pretty busy with Elusive Samurai S2 and Bocchi the Rock S2. | @wiratama12 Yeah I know it was the 2nd most watched show this summer on all streaming platforms in Japan and usually trended the highest out of the Cloverworks trio on social medias too (except week 13 for obvious reasons, no episode scheduled and Aobuta & Kaoru Hana had one) but I think Blu-Rays sells matter more for Aniplex/Cloverworks as anime studios make their money with that, all the profit from streaming stuffs and collabs usually goes to the production committee or owner of the franchise (Square Enix in this case) instead. I will share the screen I posted on the other thread Producer of the Show and leader of the MDUD/Bocchi/ES team at Cloverworks (Umehara) saying S2 happened because "people bought all sort of things" You explained the situation about the Umehara team perfectly but don't forget that this team might get new projects (very unlikely since they already have 3 consistent projects but you never know) so as we said a lot of time, we have to wait once Bocchi and Elusive Samurai get their release date to see how it goes , most likely next year. |

Oricon confirmed today the official numbers I shared last week. 6th in overall Blu-rays of the week / FIRST in Anime Blu-rays of the week way above stuffs like Kaoru Hana and Wind Breaker (both weren't even in the top 15 overall Blu-rays) This is the last data I share here since I know you guys are probably tired of it lol but yeah with all the data we have now, if there's no sequel it will be either a very stupid decision by Aniplex or a decision coming from Square Enix to stop the animated content because the Manga is over.

@Saizo32 The only news we got is volume 9 of BD/DVD, covering S2E5 and S2E6, just released for pre sales. So yeah we need to wait until 2026 when all BD/DVD already released. I think Aniplex and its Anime production committee still eager to finish the series just like the manga one. Shinichi Fukuda-sensei perhaps also all abroad the idea to finish the anime just like the manga. Square Enix is the one is in grey zone since the manga is already over and basically there's no incentive to give license for producing anime, albeit I hope they also in the same board for new sequel anime since both the manga and anime were hugely popular.

@wiratama12 Dandadan's season 2 (the only anime that gave competition to MDUD S2 this summer popularity-wise in Japan outside of maybe Takopi) blu-ray numbers are out and it's basically the same numbers as Kaoru Hana S1. I agree with what you say , seeing how good MDUD blu-rays did sales-wise (MDUD S2 is basically the summer 2025 anime that sold the most) we know that if a season 3 never happens, it will clearly not be Cloverworks's fault/decision , I think at this point one can argue that MDUD is their most successful show alongside Bocchi (need to see how S2 does before) and obviously Spy x Family (not really their 100% property as it's a co-production with WIT STUDIO), and being the most successful show of a studio as big as Cloverworks is an accomplishment for sure. Now I think this whole story about a sequel is in Square Enix and maybe Aniplex hands , let's hope they can change their minds , let's wait.

@Saizo32 Speaking the manga, it total sales just hit 15 million copies (being mentioned by Shinichi Fukuda-sensei itself), both digital and printed. Even the English version of the Volume 15 still not yet to sales (only happened at beginning of 2026). It is quite surprised since I remember in September 2024 they just break 12 million copies mark. If the sales of manga still full steam (despite already finished), and the sales of BD/DVD also pretty good, I think both Aniplex and its Anime production team and Square Enix don't had any reason to not finished the anime too.

@wiratama12 Yeah I saw it ! 15 Million with only 15 Volume is awesome, it's basically a 1 Million copies sold per Volume on average ratio. What's really impressive is that you said it , it was at 12 million last year before the release of Volume 14 (late November 2024) so that mean they managed to sell 3 millions more in less than a year with only 2 new Volume released. Maybe Manga being over might not be that big of a deal for Square Enix if it keeps doing that good anyway... ? We'll see. We basically had only good signs since anime ended : good blu-rays sales, amazing manga sales , ton of (Marin) merchs planned , we just need a final season 3 now, I still have faith for something announced next year when all the blu-rays get released.

Little update for the new Blu-ray released last week (Volume 8) , it sold relatively the same as the first one from season 2 (only around ~300 copies less overall) : 5084 copies (4608 Blu-ray / 476 DVDs) Kaoru Hana released on the same day and I couldn't see it in the Oricon top 15 so I assume it did less than 2K like last time and Ao Buta (santa claus) Volume 2 sold 4352 copies two week ago , that means MDUD is still doing the best out of the summer 2025 Cloverworks trio when it comes to Blu-ray/DVD sales. I won't track the rest of the Blu-rays every months don't worry , this is my last post about it , the next 4 Blu-rays will probably sell around the same range of 4.5-5.5k copies until late February 2026 , we have enough data to say that it's still doing very good now so we'll keep waiting for an update after the 4 remaining get released. I won't lose hope just yet.

@Saizo32 Also both radio show, featuring Hina Suguta and Shoya Ishige, and Shoya Ishige making cosplay outfit were still in full steam as you said in Aniplex Official YouTube account (albeit they only released once a month). Unlike season 1, this season radio show still airing. Next radio show even feature Atsumi Tanezaki, Sajuna "Juju" Inui VA

@wiratama12 The anime has a lot of stuffs going on this month surprisingly : there’s a big collab in Japan that goes until the end of November (collab with a store named « Bushiroad ») , the radio show with Juju’s VA (who’s also Frieren and Anya’s voice btw) like you mentioned , first time she will talk about MDUD season 2 because iirc she was on voice acting break due to illness and finally Blu-ray volume 9 releasing which will contain the Rei-Sama arc (Ep5-6 which is imo the best part of season 2). As a Manga reader I would love the potential sequel to be announced in December , it would be perfect because the next arc happens during this month and it holds a great significance for the next cosplay (if you know, you know) but that’s a huge cope…

@Saizo32 Sequel anime perhaps too good to be true if announced in December too, albeit December is also the timeline when one of the greatest cosplay outfit made by Gojo and wore by Marin were in full steam. If they announced it December, the next radio show should throw some hint about new sequel. Speaking about Atsumi Tanezaki, she's already appears in every anime event in Frieren and Spy x Family, albeit it is true she's still not commit any VA jobs due poor health. This perhaps would become the most anticipated radio show since we knew how famous she is.

@Saizo32 Right now Rei-sama were still under process being made by Gojo's VA. When making Shizuku-tan outfit in cultural festival outfit, he need 13 weeks to made that, for Rei-sama outfit it probably need same timing as previous outfit. If they want announced season 3, perhaps this is the best timing to do that, albeit right now we still don't had any schedule when Bocchi the Rock S2 and Elusive Samurai S2 airing. At the end of February 2026 the last BD Volume of My Dress-Up Darling S2 were released. So yeah let's see how this is work since they announced it pretty long time before actual event were happened. I think since at the end of October 2025 we saw My Dress-Up Darling official social media account and website were pretty busy with announcement after pretty quiet since the end of season 2.

Elusive Samurai S2 is now confirmed to air in July 2026 now so we just need the airing date for Bocchi S2 but if it's airing in 2027 , I don't except any sequel for MDUD until at least 2028-2029... There's still a chance for Bocchi S2 to air in Fall 2026 (production was said to have started in January 2025 according to the new director Yusuke Yamamoto) so MDUD sequel could maybe air in late 2027 the earliest but this is really the best case scenario (very low chances of happening). At this point let's wait to see what the event in early February 2026 will show (assuming they even show anything...) I feel like this is really our last hope now, if this event doesn't announce anything I feel like we could assume MDUD/Sono bisque anime is 100% done forever until proved otherwise.
