the absence of music can also make intense moments hit hard, as if I'm tuned in to the story

I want to focus solely on the story and art. I found lyrical music hard to concentrate(in languages that I understand)

Usually I just try to do that for the action scenes as I think that amplifies the fights but only if the choreography is fluid. But there are sometimes like Fool Night I tried to incorporate Piano music to add to the atmosphere.

But the first time I tried listening to music with manga would probably be Berserk. Do not ask me why, but I feel like the song Pneuma by TOOL fits perfectly into the atmosphere of Berserk. I usually don’t play the whole song I try to play it in my head and visualize certain parts of the song during certain scenes. Like the opening of the song I visualize when you know something dark is going to happen or something is on the horizon. I try to visualize. The guitar riff during fight scenes as I feel comes down on you with the same amount of fury as Guts swinging his sword. I could go on, but it’s really hard to describe.

All and all, I think Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love by Van Halen and Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin are the most effective for most action scenes. But to me, it’s something you have to visualize in your head at the right moment instead of actually playing the song. And the songs I listed or the easiest (for me) to visualize.

The first time I applied the theory outside of Berserk was during the Cursed House arc from DanDaDan with Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love and oh my god it made the action fly off the page.

People are more divided on this than I thought. I read very fast and music is sort of distracting while reading, it develops into a noise if the manga captivates me enough.

Not regularly, but when Tokyo DTED listed songs at the end of the chapters i stopped to listen to them. I still listen to a few of them now.

I like to listen to one song the entire time I read a manga so that when I listen to that song in the future I'm reminded of the story.
