More the "how" than the "what". I do assume things of others, as a biased human being, but I also am aware enough of my biases to know that they exist, that I could be wrong in my initial assumptions. So I try to judge people more on their behavior (the "how") than the "what". Not everyone who is into fur suits wants to fuck animals.
I do tend to judge other anime fans if they act weird, in a socially inappropriate way, particularly younger (early 20s or lower).
ColourWheel said:If I happen to meet someone new for the 1st time before getting to know them and all they talked about was BL or Loli Anime I would surely have my guard up and think they had some screw loose in their head. It's simply not a normal thing to go around talking freely like that to complete strangers in real life when it involves anything that would be considered taboo.
Ah, this is actually what I am thinking about. I am not against people into shows like Wataten or The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done, but I am also cognizant of how people may view those shows, outside of the fandom. There is also the issue of making any single thing our entire personality. For example, Rick and Morty's fans, and "Disney adults".
I kind of expect most adults to be "varied enough" in their passions, but maybe it is just me. To be able to discuss more than simply this one thing from our youth.
Ever since that incident, I have always had my guard up with new people in real life specifically dealing with people known to commit petty crimes like shoplifting or stealing in general. I certainly would never hire someone to do a job for me if they admitted to illegal piracy because anyone who would do that likely would steal anything if they think they could get away with it.
The most difficult thing about being a normal person, like myself, is that we rarely had to deal with actual criminals or people who are, say, pathological liars. If you are used to living a lifestyle where people generally told the truth, then one is not prepared to deal with people who lie and manipulate others on a frequent basis.
I say this because it is exceptionally jarring to deal with someone like this for the first time. No one is ever prepared for it unless they grew up or lived in a rough part of town. There is an interview+NYT article with Elizabeth Holmes where the reporter completely bombed and got manipulated by her. |
