I'm probably one of the few that as a straight man don't think it's hot. To me, it feels like NTR. Like I'm just sitting in the closet watching two other people get romantic. The idea itself also seems unappealing. If they're gay, then they wouldn't have any interest in you regardless, so why would you have any interest in them. I don't know, to me I've always just found the thing of men liking yuri weird. But to each their own.

Straight male, neutral to yuri. Whether I find it hot depends on how attractive I find the girls themselves.

I am a straight woman and I think it's disgusting.

The same can be said to BL/yaoi.

@Avicebrons No offense, just some questions:

What does liking girls love as a man have to do with NTR ? I don't understand the correlation.

So you don't like watching other's romance in general? Because you would always be watching other people get lovey-dovey.

If they're hetero, then the girl wouldn't have any interest in you as well, so why would you watch her romance with another guy?

No offense taken. As I said, I know I'm in the minority. So by definition, most people probably won't understand.

The correlation is what follows afterwards.

So you don't like watching other's romance in general? Because you would always be watching other people get lovey-dovey.
Well no, because with straight romance you can always to some extent imagine yourself as the guy, or at least relate. That doesn't really work with yuri. At least not for me.

If they're hetero, then the girl wouldn't have any interest in you as well, so why would you watch her romance with another guy?
Point above. But also, if they're gay then their sexuality means that there is no scenario in which they would have interest in you (unless they were bi I suppose). Unlike heterosexuality. Which is what I meant by the entire idea sounding unappealing. Cause you would then like people who explicitly does not like you. Kinda like if you were say Japanese and you found women who explicitly does not date Japanese people, hot.

Let's just go outside anime and watching it fictionally. And instead look at real life. Many men who were questioned said they would be totally fine with their girlfriends making out with other women because they find it hot. That to me is quite literally just being a cuck. Change that woman to a man and suddenly it's simply your girlfriend making out with another man. I know it's not the same thing as the question that was asked, but I'm just using it as an example to further give insight to how I feel about it. Unless I feel like I can relate to some extent, then it's just like I'm watching from a closet while two other people get it on. I.e NTR.

But of course this is just in terms of finding it "hot". It would be something else entirely if you were watching yuri for the characters and story and such.

@Avicebrons I see, so you can only enjoy a romance if you can imagine yourself as a male and in case of girls love you can't imagine yourself as a female.
Well, that's kind of understandable, but it let's you miss out on some great experience, just saying.

No, not necessarily self-insert. Just relate to some extent. Don't really know how else to put it. But also, we're talking about if it's "hot". Not if I can just enjoy it as a piece of media for the story or characters. I even included that part at the end. I don't mind watching yuri if it's a good show. But I just don't find the yuri itself "hot", for the reasons explained prior.

So I don't really feel like I'm missing out. That would be sort of like telling a straight guy they're missing out on a great experience by not enjoying hardcore yaoi BDSM. Maybe there are some absolute banger materials in that category. But nonetheless, I'd imagine they're still not so bummed about "missing out" on such an experience.

That analogy doesn't quite make sense, as a straight guy there isn't any character you can find hot in yaoi romance, but there are 2 characters you can find hot in yuri romance. That's the appeal of it, there are only characters you yourself find hot, with no male in sight.

Yuri is my favorite genre! I do feel like yuri fans get done dirty tho. Most "yuri" is just bait. There really isn't that much high quality yuri content.

I'm a straight guy and I'm neutral about it. GL / yuri is neither disgusting nor hot to me.

Also do you have a comfortable range with? In other words you're fine with explicit yuri or do you prefer an implied one?
I'm totally okay with both explicit and implied yuri.

Aside from the obvious question, do you have a problem with GL ships in non yuri shows?
I don't have a problem with that. It would be problematic if the shippers hurl insults and make threats at people for not being a fan of their ship though.

I think you're missing the point of that line. When I said there is something I explicitly do not like, you said that I'm missing out. So I equated it to that. Telling someone, a straight guy, that they're missing out by not watching yaoi, something they don't like. It doesn't make sense.

Think about a movie you didn't like. Wouldn't it have been better if you did like it? I mean you like movies after all? Don't you feel like you're missing out by not liking that particular movie? Even if I put it like that, you wouldn't magically turn around and like that movie. In fact, I'd imagine your feelings on it wouldn't even change a bit. Even though you're objectively missing out.

That's what I wanted to get across. The idea that you're missing out is technically true, it's also a bit nonsensical, since every person on the planet has preferences, and preferences inherently will mean you're missing out on something. Any person who isn't a pansexual are missing out on all the other people they could be attracted to. You see where I'm going with this?

I see, but what I mean is that even though you are straight and therefore find girls hot, you can't enjoy hot girls making out because you need to relate but can't, and this circumstance leads to missing out on an experience that you might otherwise like.

@Zarutaku
And the circumstance of straight men not liking yaoi leads to an experience they might otherwise have liked if only they simply found men attractive. This is sort of the same thing. You're essentially saying "You would've liked it, if you liked it". And you're talking as if it's just some random arbitrary choice that I woke up one day and made. It's not just a switch I can flick. Just as you can't change a person's sexuality by saying "But hey, these people are great too, you're really missing out an a great experience by not finding them attractive". The argument of "missing out an experience" is nonsensical because every single human being to have ever exists in the entire world are missing out on experiences because we all have preferences.

You yourself are missing out on hundreds, thousands, of experiences. I'm certain you have genres you aren't particularly fond of, maybe you don't like sports, things like that. Don't you see that you're robbing yourself of a bunch of great experiences by having these preferences? But even if I say that, your preferences still won't change. Thus the idea that "you're missing out on an experience" is nonsensical.

Just because I find girls hot, doesn't mean I find girls hot regardless of the circumstances. No one does. There are some scenarios you just don't find appealing. A person finding girls hot doesn't necessarily have to like BDSM for instance. But what you're saying is that they're robbed of an experience just because some ropes are in play even though they find girls hot. And to use my previous example, it would probably be a big turn-off for a Japanese guy if a girl explicitly did not like Japanese guys, even though that guy finds girls hot. Again, context matters.

It's hot if it's not taken too seriously, having it as a side relationship in an anime is pretty cool
I found those kiss scenes in that 100 girlfriends anime so freaking good, so something like that is hella nice

To be honest, there was a time in my younger years where the only thing I wanted to see about the Yuri genre was the screwing. And while that's a bit true to some extent, I now appreciate the stories and wholesome stuff along side the not-so-wholesome stuff.
