Outer Field

He strolled into the seemingly desolate field. He was rather hungry and desired some blood. He walked placidly across the dusty plain of the field, his boots stirring the dirt. His robes were still on and covering up every single piece of his skin, his gloves doing the same. His mask, the most obvious part of his get-up, was also still upon his face. He pulled a red rose from within the folds of his robes and twirled the deceptive flower between his leather glove-clad fingertips. He reached up with his other hand and gently plucked one of the petals from the rose, letting the petal drop to the ground slowly. He then heard some sort of stringed instrument playing and turns his head to try and find the source of the noise. He sees a girl playing a... Well, he wasn't sure what the instrument was.

His timeline didn't have that instrument but it resembled an enlarged lute. He then directed his attention to the rather attractive female playing the instrument. His eyes wandered the curves of her body, she was petite in build. This was something Caelan enjoyed in his women, a petite build was better than a robust one in his opinion. He continued to pluck the petals from the rose as he watched the girl. Eventually, the rose's petals had been all but plucked and he looked down once again at the flower to admire its new shape and look. Before it had been beautiful and deceptive, luring victims to grasp its stem so it could puncture their skin. Now it was fully revealed for being a simple stem with painful spikes.

He dropped the rose stem onto the ground and wrung his hands slowly as he let the girl finish her song. He began to walk in that placid and flowing way that he always did; as if he was gliding across a smooth surface. He claps precisely three times as the girl finishes her song and he continues to walk towards her as he did so, halting precisely three meters away from her. He then clears his throat gently and speaks in a soft tone, "Very good... I have a query as to what that instrument may be, I have never seen its like before." He then shifts his body language as if to suggest he wished to hold the instrument, "May I?"

The girl didn't hand him the 'guitar' as she called it and was rather surprised that he hadn't seen one before. Apparently, this 'guitar' was a common commodity in this day and age. He responds to her question with, "Hmm... I feel like your response infers that I should know what this 'guitar' is and that I should have come across one before. However, I am not exactly... From this timeline. It's a complicated story and I'd rather not relay to you in case you grow bored of my company." He took a few steps closer and closed the distance so that they were only 1 meter apart. His voice was still quiet but strangely very understandable, as if each syllable was send with a certain precision so as to correctly convey the word she desired to communicate.

He knelt before the girl and she would now be able to see his eyes through the eye sockets in his mask, they were a deep crimson red and held some rather mixed emotions. Cold harshness, passive tranquility, devouring hunger, benevolent kindness but above all, an immense curiosity. He moved a gloved hand and put it into the folds of his robes once more, he withdrew a flower from its confines and showed it to her, twirling the rose between his fingertips. It was red and freshly plucked, "Tell me... What do you think of when you see this flower? Do you see beauty? Or do you see deception? Or perhaps your perception sees something entirely different." He says, he didn't act as if he was giving her the flower, instead he kept it held out for her just to look at.

He was amused by her ideology, old meant ugliness? He pondered this for a moment, a withered flower could still be beautiful if portrayed in the right way. He began to peel the petals of the flower one by one. Each time he pulled a petal that off he would shuffle closer to the girl. When it was nothing more than a stem he held it up so that it was directly in front of her face. His eyes remained fixated on the girl the entire time, not shifting from her own eyes. "What do you think of it now?" He says quietly, almost in a whisper. He holds the spiky stem up for her to inspect. It didn't really matter what her response would be, he would merely take the information and process it, saving it in his memory so as tp analyse it later. His value of the abstract meant he appreciated all sorts of perceptions.

He would stand up and give the girl some hair, he would then offer a gloved hand down to the girl, dropping the rose stem with his other. He noted the girl's rather flustered demeanour and tries to patch up her anxiety, "I apologise if I come off as... Oppressive. I don't really mean to but sometimes I get rather carried away. Anyhow, I have the pleasure of being Caelan, no last name, unfortunately. May I request to know the name of such a beautiful girl as yourself?" He asks, his voice quiet as usual. If she accepted his helping hand he would pull her to his feet and place his other hand on her side to stabilise her. He was perverted in nature, after all, a little touching couldn't go amiss.

Her response made him grin, of course, she wouldn't be able to see it due to his mask. She didn't make to move or to grab his hand, obviously, the girl distrusted him and the main cause was most likely his attire. She introduced herself as Skylar, "Sylar? Hmmm... I wonder if you would be comfortable if I called you Skye? Too shorten the name and make it quicker to address you?" He asks with his quiet voice. He looked down at the rose stem, he was pleased that she had realised the deceptiveness of the flower.

He moves over and sit down beside her, keeping around 30cm of distance between them so as to make sure she didn't feel uncomfortable or cramps. His eyes wandered her body once more with perverted hunger. "Yes... It's curious isn't it? That the rose's beauty can be removed so easily and display the potentially dangerous spikes it possesses. I doubt that anybody would pick the flower if it was just a stem, a fine example of how nature gives us all our strengths and weaknesses. For the rose, its strength is its beauty and its weakness the fact that the beauty can be removed easily. It's all a matter of finding our strengths and weaknesses so we can protect the latter with the former and utilise the former to our most effective ability. So, Skylar, what are your strengths?" He asks, he intended the question to be rhetoric but that meaning may be lost.

He smiles again beneath the mask, he briefly considered taking off his mask so as to make the girl feel more at ease but decided against it after a moment. She didn't catch the rhetoric in his question and asked why he wanted to know her strengths, "It was a rhetorical query, one to initiate self-reflection and to find your own strengths. I do not personally want to know your strengths, though if you wish to share I am here to listen." He says, his tone or depth of voice not changing. He noted her body language. He admired her pink hair as it blew steadily in the wind, "I always appreciate the colourful features of people, your pink hair for example, or someone's blue eyes. I suppose it might be envy, not appreciation, considering I possess dull and dark features myself. Not that you can see it, though." He adds before looking out over the track, the wind beginning to play with the flaps of his robes.

He tilts his head in thought at her question, he picked through his words to find the best pattern and structure which he would use to respond, he didn't want to scare her away nor did he want to lie. "I suppose... Well, the mask is a barrier to protect my innocence, the clothes do the same. When I wear the mask it is like I am not bound by morals if that makes sense, because that person isn't me." He says in answer, slowly and carefully picking over his words.

She said that she got a lot of attention and he guessed it wasn't just her hair and eyes that were the causes of that. "I'm sure your attractiveness also gets you a lot of attention then, most would view that as good attention. I get a lot of attention too, but mine is usually because of the mask and the robes, people are frightened of the unnatural, unusual and unknown. I fit all those categories. If I removed my mask I'm sure you would feel more comfortable no? That is just innately human." He says quietly, a butterfly fluttered by and he raises his hand to let it land on an outstretched pointer finger.

He watches the insect with curiosity, admiring its colorful wings that brought it so much love and attention. But if the beauty, the wings, were take away all that was left was the butterfly's ugly body. Like all things, its beauty could be taken away so easily and forever after people would not view it as something pretty and attractive, but rather as something ugly and uninviting. It would be avoided if not for its wings. He listened to Skylar's response about how she didn't like attention of any kind and that she didn't think all people feared the unknown. "You're right. The people that are the unknown do not fear the unknown. There will of course be the few exceptions, like yourself, who did not fear the unknown and are not part of the unknown but they are rare. I do enjoy finding something rare..." He says with another mask-hidden grin.

He slowly moved his hand with the butterfly on it over towards Skylar, he then gently touched the top of her head and the butterfly fluttered from his finger to the top of her hair. He admired the scene of Skylar and the butterfly for a few moments before speaking, "If you are curious of the unknown then that must mean you are curious as to what is behind this mask I wear." He says with his perpetually quiet tone while gesturing towards the mask. Perhaps this girl would be able to convince him to remove his mask, he doubted it but it would be enjoyable to test her either way. This girl was a unique find, and an attractive one, he wondered at what her past was. Tragic? Normal? Unique? Sad? Happy? She was a specimen he hoped to explore and experiment on, not because of any malevolent drive, but rather because his interest was piqued.

He sighed silently at her question, it was something he had been asked often, 'why wear the mask?' He had become used to it and normally just gave answers that steered away from a solid answer. "I do not wear it to cover up anything, I don't have any facial scarring or anything, nor do I think I am incredibly unattractive." He says, he decided that we would respond truthfully, "I wear it to protect. To protect my innocence. I've done some... questionable things in my time and I wore this mask through all of it, when I wear the mask it is not me that is committing the acts, but a different person. An apathetic being with no conscience."

He watches as the butterfly takes off and flutters away from her head. His stomach growled, he would need to go hunting soon less his thirst overcome him and he turned forms uncontrollably, he did not wish for that to happen. He figured it would scare Skylar away if he was to suddenly shift into feral form. He decided that he would show her his face, he hadn't shown his face to anyone for a long time; the last person had been Mamoru Sekai. Caelan reaches up and grabs either side of his hood before lifting it back off his head. This displayed his midnight black hair, he then reached over to his mask and lifted it away to display his features beneath. He was quite pale, his eyebrows black like his hair, and his eyes were a deep crimson red that flashed and caught the light in an odd fashion. "This... is my innocence." He says quietly.

He watched as she laid back on the grass and looked up at the sky, she had said some stuff about how she didn't see the reason of the mask, that she didn't understand how hiding behind the mask helps. "It helps... It's not explainable to someone who doesn't need one... But it helps nonetheless." He says with his quietly toned voice. He loved up at the sky as well, he could almost feel her increase in comfort. He had guessed that she would be more comfortable around him without his mask and he had been correct.

She then asked him if he wanted to get something to eat, he hesitated. He did think getting something to eat with her would be nice, the problem was that the food he ate was not exactly... normal. "I would love to take you up on the offer but I don't think I eat the same food as you." He then widens his lips apart and turns to her to display his teeth, he then raised a hand to point at one of the four jagged canine teeth he possessed. "I'm a vampire." He says nonchalantly and casually, as if this was not anything that amazing or spectacular.

He had already guessed her next question before she had spoken, it was the typical response to seeing his fangs or learning that he was a vampire. He nods,"I do. Doesn't have to be human blood but I do drink it. It doesn't hurt the victim too much, though, I normally just knock a small animal unconscious, take some blood, and then leave it. It is fine when it wakes up." He says quietly. He noticed the uneasiness in her voice.

He shifted his body position so he could look around him better, "You don't have to worry, I won't take blood from a human unless they willingly give it up. There are no side effects to my bite since I'm a specific type of vampire, not a normal one." He adds, trying to reassure her and make the conversation turn away from the uncomfortable aura that was currently emitting from it. He sighs and raises his hand to comb through his midnight, black hair. It fell messily across his face as his fingers passed through it.

He notices that she was staring at him and he flashed her a smile as she did so. She certainly was attractive in Caelan's eyes, his perverseness hadn't lessened because of their conversation, in fact, it was growing. This girl was very interesting and Caelan wanted to get to... know... her. His stomach rumbled again and he began to get a little bit wary, he would need to feast soon. Then he got an idea, but Skylar asked him a question so he would have to wait until he could voice his idea to her.

Why did he come to a high school? He thought on this for a moment, his brow creasing as he decided on his answer. "Well... I need to educate myself on the workings of the current world. For example, your clothes are unlike what I'm used to, your 'guitar' I have never seen, those metal carriages called 'cars' didn't exist in my time. Everything is different and high school is a place of education where I can learn these things. Besides, I'm waiting for something. Might as well spend my time here." He says, again with the perpetually quiet tone. Now that he had answered he wanted to voice his idea to her. "Hey... Do you think you could do me a favour? I would rather not hunt down any prey to drink their blood so I was wondering if you would be willing for me to drink your blood instead?" He asks.

If she said she wasn't willing he would nod and then stand, "I suppose I go better hunt some prey then. It was nice meeting you, Skye." He would then replace his mask, pull up his hood and walk off in the direction of some trees. If she said she was willing he would nod and say, "You'll feel a small prick when it happens, it won't hurt too badly." He would then shuffle closer and lean in towards the right side of her neck, he would use a gloved hand to brush her hair away from the spot and close his eyes. He would then proceed to lean him and place his lips against her neck before biting in gently to the vein, the small holes in his canines would begin to drag out the blood and after about thirty seconds he would release the bite and pull away slowly. "Thank you." He would say before returning to his sitting position that he had taken beforehand. "I suppose it's only fair you get food as well then, I'm not sure where we can get it so you can lead the way."

As Caelan pulled away from Skylar's neck he heard a voice and quickly whipped his head around to look at her. She noted that he was a vampire, also commenting on how handsome he was. He quickly grabs his mask and replaces it onto his face, also moving the hood back over his head. He shifted his seat and looked at Skye, expecting her to respond since this new girl had asked her a question.

His crimson red eyes were hidden by the shadows of his mask and he was able to look at this new girl in more detail. Her breasts were huge and her pink hair was done up in two pigtails. Like Skylar, she was quite attractive.He decided to respond to her, "Yes, I am a vampire. We were about to go get something to eat so we won't be here for long. I assume you had something to do here?" He would then look at Skylar, wondering if his new found acquaintance would be fine with this girl accompanying them. "If it's okay with you, should we let them join us?" He asks, again using his quiet tone.

The girl called him a cutie and said that he could reveal all his secrets to her, she sounded quite seductive when she said this. She also said she would rather go eat with them instead of run on the track, she then introduced herself as Hotomi and asked where they were going. She struck a pose which made Caelan's eyes flick from her breasts to her rear assets hungrily. He looked at Skylar as she talked, it seemed all three of them were new here.

"My name is Caelan, no last name to give. Hotomi is it? A pleasure to meet you. Sorry, but I'd rather keep my face hidden most of the time, I'd appreciate if you don't describe my features to anyone." He says quietly with a friendly enough tone. He looked down at her breasts again, admiring their size. "I believe we were about to head towards the cafe, whatever that is, I suppose a tavern of some kind. Skye, you can lead." He adds.
