Bans and Warnings should be permanent, with a thread indicating members who have been warned/how many times so all admins can keep track of it.

That way, their is no messing around, the admin who warned can keep the proof and "write" which admin warned who/when.

That solves so many problems, but their is also the negative of it being "outing" for members, which can be pretty harsh.

In this specific case even if it had just happened and we caught it right away, I don't think a ban would be appropriate, even if his "apology" wasn't a very meaningful or genuine one. A single language slip up is just cause for a warning.

This.

That idea has been proposed some time ago and we rejected it since it would be like creating a "Monia Café's Wall of Shame" thread...

Wouldn't it be a bit harsh if bans were permanent? Well I agree for those who post inappropriate stuff like that user who posted XXX stuff, permanent ban is appropriate. However we also have users who sometimes by accident break a rule and they get banned. They can be put under a 30 day probation period where if they mess up again, then they get banned on the spot.

I did say "That solves so many problems, but their is also the negative of it being "outing" for members, which can be pretty harsh."

Although, I can see it being a reason for more inactivity, people don't like being shamed no matter where.

Well, I personally think that MAL should be capable of creating a forum-side "Access Rank" thread, where only staff can enter etc, it's possible on other forums and isn't that difficult to do, but we frequently use MAL which can't even kick a banned name from a club x:

I'll propose another idea.
[spoiler]creating a dropbox account OR using a file-sharing site, where only admins can have access. I don't see any flaws their x.x

Dropbox, or any other file-sharing website is capable of doing it.

You can also set it up so that a password is required to enter.

It solves the problem of "outing" people in a thread on here, and it gives everyone who needs to know the information that will then be accessible any time they need it. Also, since it's more private, you can post the "evidence" you've gathered against said person(s) without it leaking to everyone else.

As long as Monia's cool using an outside source to keep track of that stuff then that could work.
The easiest way might be a simple Google Doc that keeps track of it all, that only the Admins are granted access to.

I actually forgot about google doc... *Facepalm* Well, it's the same end result.

I don't really see a problem with it, although it is down to Monia. Using something not on MAL is also a good way of improving it's environment (well, thats what I think)

[spoiler]I still use anichart instead of MAL's seasonal preview, for an example of outsourcing.

I already track the warnings giving to the members here which is why admins are required to post here once they warn a member. It is not that we have tons of warnings to manage them using a spreadsheet or something for now~

By "Permanent", the ban won't be lifted no matter how much time passes. But the member can still appeal if they want to go back.

And it is unlikely for someone to get accidentally get banned, as multiple warnings are usually required for that.

I think you suggested temporary bans before, I don't think there is any real use for that, as members who can get back get do that much faster than 30 days. And those with no hope simply won't ever be back.

Gave Gownoazathotha a warning about swearing in the comments. They did it twice back to back, but apparently my screencap of the second time failed to go through before I deleted it, so I only have the one image.

Hmm.. I have a question... Does rule #3 not apply to Usernames? AverageB*****d

I also have a question regarding a few words

We did had a discussion about bad words on peoples nick a long time ago I think... I'm don't recall the result of it though.
It's not like we can force people to change their nicks or sets. I believe there's nothing we can do regarding someones user name. ( I might be wrong though)

About the words, both Ass and Piss used to be banned words, but since the new rule 3 is here they might be used IF ( and ONLY IF) they are not used on an offensive or overly sexual manner... Of course they also can't hurt rule #1.

Did you saw anyone using those words on an inappropriate manner ? if so, please let us know.

For usernames, it is allowed. That's up to the user's responsability.

Piss is allowed.
Ass is allowed as well. There was a time I used to give warnings when it was used.

Unless those two words aren't used in a lewd way, they are allowed.

No, I didn't see the words used offensively but I was just wondering because I had seen it being used a lot recently.

Well, the account isn't exactly active and I randomly seen it in the "club members" part, so it's not hurting anyone, I thought it would just be best to tell you of it.

Is that really worth it though? Keeping an eye on every time they're quoted so we can edit it? If there name is already going to be around in the club, that seems a tad unnecessary.

Also it's worth noting there's nothing we can really do about a person's avatar or signature either if they contain something that breaks the club's rules, so like the name we sort of have t just live with it. :/

Mhmmm...

However, I wanna clear up something, since we already had a case about an user with the F-Word on their nickname who created a HST:

If an user with that kind of word on their nickname wants to create a HST, it would be good if they use another nickname for the thread title.

Example: The user I'm talking about had the F-word on their nickname. He asked me if he could create a HST. I told him to pick another nickname for the thread title. He has choosen "Fu-kun".

What do you think about this?

Even if it's just a short, simple comment of agreement, I think everyone that is willing to should post in that thread about it. Suggestions and complaints with even 2 or 3 pages of people wanting it seem to get ignored all the time, so lets give it as much attention as possible.

I was curious. What do you guys do to HST that aren't active anymore. Reasons being hiatus from this site, lazyness to ask others questions or no longer in the club. If it's the latter, then I see no point in keeping a thread open. Wouldn't it be better to just remove HST if the user is no longer in the club, or if the user is on hiatus, put a message.

I think maybe if a user hasn't been online for a year or so then maybe we could consider getting rid of those, but if it's just inactive and the user is still gets online it would be unfair to delete it.

But overall I don't see it as necessary. They're not really in the way or anything...

Banned members have their HST deleted.
I think we could think about using the same approach to members that are no longer in the club...after all they did leave the club for some reason.

Some members do leave messages when the are going on a hiatus, but I don't think we should just go out looking for inactive HST to leave "hiatus messages". (There's no point in doing it).. I don't see the problem in leaving inactive HST around.

Kicking/removing threads/members would only decrease the activity, thats like saying to them "Thanks for being here, but now that you're gone we don't care about you" which isn't the right approach :x
