I always read him with Grimmjow's/Aomine's voice actor in mind personally.

This. I was so disappointed to find that Grimmjow's VA wasn't voicing Ban, the voice just fits so perfectly. Instead it's going to Makoto from Free!. Doesn't fit that well, especially after listening to Ban's preview...
