@Jollyne7 It's not about being complicated. CSM uses a lot of show don't tell style of writing. It isn't on the nose with its presentation unlike Indian movies which completely lack subtlety.

Like how many people in India do you think caught onto the fact that Reze made a donation to the charity at the end and received a flower and realised Denji got the flower he gave her by making a donation as well and that's when she finally decided she will run away with him.

It's not complicated but general Indian audience which watches bollywood masala movies won't appreciate such show don't tell style of writing.
@King_KK ''Like how many people in India do you think caught onto the fact '' Sorry, but it still sounds like you think they're idiots. If I were from India, I'd be kind of offended. Maybe someone won't notice, maybe most will, but you can literally apply that to people from any country for god's sake. Unfortunately, people sometimes don't pay attention to details, but the world won't end if someone doesn't notice and only realizes later. Most people go to the movies to see cool fights. Chinsaw man is no exception. You could just as easily say that people in India don't watch... I don't know, Oppenheimer, Dune, or some complicated sci-fi because they're too stupid. That's not how it works. Chinsaw Man isn't as popular and doesn't get the marketing that some anime films do, and that's it. Anime has recently become mega-popular. It's obvious that such a series won't suddenly rival the popularity of DS.

@Regularguy_69420 um ok, so what's the point? why mentioned ds out of nowhere?

I'm talking about this weird generalization that if a certain animated movie didn’t blow up, it means the Indian audience doesn’t watch anything outside their norm which is completely wrong. If that were true, DS would have never blown up the way it did. The main reason it earned so much was its wider reach and marketing compared to other animated movies, just like how Oppenheimer became a super hit in India while killers of the flower moon was barely known. F1 also earns really well so yeah, it's not the audience fault that movie didn't have enough reach.
@nishant0 CSM fans jealousy towards Demon Slayer really needs to be studied tbh.

@Jollyne7 I am Indian so I know how the general audience in India works and what they like to watch. Culturally most of us Indians prefer direct messaging over subtlety. All of our most popular movies are extremely direct about what their themes and ideas are. Any time a movie tries to be subtle or nuanced, it tanks at box office. Even the greatest Indian director like Satyajeet Ray expressed his frustration with the Indian audience and their complete lack of support for more sophisticated movies.

Ofcourse I understand it's not the only reason CSM tank in India but bad word of mouth among the general audience is one of the reason.

I'm actually surprised it wasn't a hit. Pretty much everyone's comparing it to DS. Obviously they're both action anime with great animation that released around the same time so its hard for people not compare them. That being said I like CSM much much more than DS. Demon Slayer is simple and straightforward with fights, good animation, quick pacing etc. The reason it even got popular in the first place was because of its accessibility. It's just gonna attract more people. But for veteran anime viewers like me, DS does not appeal to me whatsoever apart from its animation since it makes for an extremely generic show. Thats just my opinion anyway.

Chainsaw man on the other hand is like the polar opposite of DS. It's stylized, the animation is not clean but very rough in a good way, actually has a great story and it has a unique identity. All these points are what most people dont care about. Keyword is most people since it doesn't mean its bad, it just appeals to lesser people.

So in short it's more about accessibility. People dont wanna watch characters talking they want to people bashing each other. Its such a shame since its such a great movie. I always tell people to watch different stuff but people are always so narrow minded they dont wanna something else apart what they already watch.

Oh yes and it was 18+ too which was interesting. I'm kinda shook they didnt censor ANYTHING. There's nudity, limbs getting torn off etc. Never seen that in a theater so thats a big plus. So yeah it's a completely different demographic literally.

@FZREMAKE idk how you expected it to even reach a fraction of Demon Slayer's collection when it's strictly rated 18+.

As almost anyone expected here, it didn't blow up. But it did get some more screens than previous movies, although not as much as KNY. But, it was bound to happen.

Even the previous demon slayer movie was 18+ and still it was house full

@Bhavya7 Demon slayer was never rated 18+. It was rated 13+
You should Check before you speak.

I went to watch demon slayer with my 12yr old sister, it was a pleasant experience.

Now she's 13 but I'd never show shows like Chainsaw man or Dandadan to my 13yr old sister. Not even if she's 15. I'm protective and I know what's right.

@Bhavya7 that was a different matter. The argument is about CSM not earning as much as Mugen train & Infinity castle in india. Why are you talking about something so random.

I bet even the collections of that Compilation movie would be very less. I ain't saying 18+ movie cannot be released or be successful in india. It's that an 18+ movie, of a medium who audience is mostly Teenagers to Young adult College students won't be successful as you'd think.

Not sure about your city, but I attended in a packed theatre, more than a week after the release today.
Unfortunately 4dx was out of theatres but 2d was good enough.. amazing art, great animation. If there was CGI then it was barely noticeable. Very balanced content wise.

Yeah after the success of Demon slayer, I was expecting at least 1/3rd the opening day of Infinity castle. For comparison, Demon slayer Opening day was around 130 million Indian rupees while Chainsaw man was only around 5 million Indian ruppes. Such a huge gap was unexpected.

Demon Slayer has skewed your vision of success. Chainsaw Man's box office is actually huge and considered successful + is higher than what MAPPA and TOHO expected. It's just that Demon Slayer is different. If we compare Chainsaw Man to any other anime, the success is massive, only Demon Slayer is doing better this year, and only Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen are doing better in general. I understand that DS fans are happy about the success, but the comparison with Chainsaw Man is useless and above all toxic. Chainsaw Man is a success, less than DS yes but that doesn't change anything. This ego war is lame and cringe.

@JaysonNnN Calm down. No one is having an ego war. Chainsaw man is definitely successful but still nothing special when it comes to box office numbers.
The thing is that many fans including me were expecting great numbers from CSM in India especially after Demon slayer's success. This movie fell short of those expectations. Even the latest Shin chan movie was doing slightly better than CSM in India. It is set in India I guess so it should be popular but still.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.
