Are we just going to ignore that about 22 of the anime you're watching aren’t in the 2025 seasonal? Even though you’re talking about what is the point of watching nonseasonal? Yes? Okay..

If the only reason you do something is to be perceived by others, you live a vapid and shallow life. How about watching something because you enjoy it? How about wanting to experience something that will make you think about life or the world in some way you hadn't before?

^ pretty much what this guy said. if you're truly a fan of something you'd watch it for the sake of it, to enjoy it. who cares if no one's talking about it? only watching things that are currently popular is super performative and it shows you're not actually interested in the hobby outside of following trends.

anime is for watching, and if you can talk about it with people then great!! but it doesn't exist solely for the purpose of discussing current hype.

I never really kept up with what is seasonal. I just watch whatever piques my interest. Sometimes there are good seasonal anime, other times I think the seasonal lineup sucks.

The anime I like to watch don't generally benefit from weekly discussions anyway. I watch anime because I enjoy them, not to discuss them weekly. Even if I'm watching some CGDCT with 20k members on MAL if no one else is going to watch it who I care to discuss it with, why bother going through the effort of watching it when it comes out? It's more enjoyable to just relax and watch it in my own time.

I guess everyone watches for their own reasons, though. If you're mostly watching anime to discuss particular titles then for you it does ruin it if a show is already over, but for me I find it better that I can just watch the whole season at a comfortable pace instead of only getting one instalment per week. The anime itself is what I find enjoyment in. I also talk about anime with other people, but in their entirety, not as a week by week thing. I also like recommending anime to other people and hearing about what anime they liked the most. All of that is better done after the show is over. I feel constrained when only have a partial experience of an anime.

Are you really asking what's the incentive to watch anime that came out more than 3 months ago? To quote an ancient text: "fun things are fun".

Didn’t realize one needs a live studio audience to enjoy media entertainment. The fun isn’t gone, it’s just not outsourced to shit like Reddit. lol

what’s the incentive to watch anime outside of the current season lineup? Like, sure, there are classics and hidden gems from the past, but if nobody is actively talking about them anymore, isn’t half the fun of watching anime kind of gone?

Incentive? Isn't just enjoyment enough? Plus you are assuming that people just don't have social lives outside of the internet. I can't count how many times in the past co-workers would go on and on about some shit they watched on TV during lunch break, even getting someone like me eventually interested in some of the shit they were talking about. And this is just strictly focused in a business work environment from the early 2000s.

Going back to when I was still in high school in the early 90s, one of my 1st shitty part time jobs was working with others was at a fucking pizza place. I can't begin to explain how many conversations we had during our 5 minute break to talk shit with each other. Often times because talking about the weather is fucking boring, people end up talk about shit like music and movies back then, when groups are not exactly friends but still put in social situations.

And just because someone is current watching seasonal shit, doesn't mean there is anyone to talk about it with if they don't know anyone else who is watching it too. That is unless people like talk about shit online with completely faceless, anonymous, and ambiguous online Users. For all one knows they could just be only bots too. lol

Besides watching shit that no one else is, is also just a different kind of fun all together.
