@ColourWheel I see it as disproportional. Basically both sides are just complaining, but one side will throw strong offenses at the other, and one will just say Tourist back. Notice you are also offending them a little more than Tourist term does.
@Sasori56483 This legit sounds like the "ElItIsTs ArE bAd" craze of a decade ago, when 50% AD threads were people getting red in the face screaming about evil elitists and how they were the scum of the earth, while said "elitists" were sipping tea discussing LoGH in each other's comment sections lmao. Looks like AD always needs some scapegoat to vent its negative emotions.

Show me a tourist, I'll show you your prejudices

@ColourWheel If you see in the topics about tourists, the replies, people who perceive themselves as tourists, or take up arms to their side (And they are not 100% tourists, not in Logan Paul way of disrespect, where the term comes from. And not in the tourist that just wants to eat at mc donalds in a foreign land another anedote way too).
Remembering tourist as a slang is not that bad. People are using it as short for bad tourists, and everybody loves the Good tourists (The people who respect, and even praise other cultures, ya know the extreme would be weaboo for example?)

The topics about tourists get closed, because they devolve into flame wars, so we get a ton of them. Because people don't manage to talk it out. I don't like downglances, and I see both sides doing it.

This is the internet… people just like to bitch and whine about anything. Even if Anime was perfect and everyone in a community shared the same values, taste, and humor, people would still find something to nitpick... like arguing over which episode was better or even shitting on each other over who used a better weapon or whatever. lol

@ColourWheel Yes. But unlike the elitist talks, which were provocatives ways to show pros of certain things, and work talks. Tourist x Anti-Tourist discussions boil down to the same tired topics of why people hate certain things they consider their culture is superior over.
If someone even points anachronism and anatopism on an opinion, people get offended as if you killed their dog.

The evolution of an anime fan: Lv 1 Tourist → Lv 15 Traveler → Lv 30 Local 😎

Reject Sakuga, Embrace the Grainy

Jokes aside though, anime newcomers are really a non-issue for the most part since people start their hobbies at different points in their lives. The only anime newcomer-related problem that I can think of would be the toxic people who used to go out of their way to bully and mock anime fans for liking anime but are now self-proclaimed anime fans. I think it’s fair to call them “nominal anime fans” or “fake fans” lol.

But regarding “anime tourists,” is there an actual, official definition for this term? Some say that simply being a COVID-era anime fan is enough to be called an anime tourist, while others say that it’s a coded term for “newcomer anime fan who’s on one particular side of the culture war.” Others say that it’s a term for “newcomer anime fan who demands that anime needs to change in many ways so that it fits their preferences.” I guess I’ll leave it up to the anime community to decide what “anime tourist” should mean and what the criteria should be.

The Animemen video was great even with all its flaws and criticisms because it wasnt riddled with reddit soy and they got crucified by the online mob for it.
It's funny how weebs have such affinity towards the trash taste crew even they were and are the biggest proffesional tour guides and they hate them because they began to pander to normies, even when they always did.
Someone @peripheralvision mentioned how the accusers don't know fucking shit about anime either (seeing it as a cudgel), so it's just overdose level of lowbrow pretension and insecurity. Gigguk is such a bot and peoplepleaser and literally last month joey got hate for being dumb about malice@doll

Even though the anti woke/culture warriors have turned into a parody, the pushback against racialism/wokeism was 100% necessary.
Well, regardless, how I may seem, I am not a progressive. I am a social liberal, and there is a difference there, in my mind at least.

Yeah, like there is really bad writing, and concepts present in left wing fiction. I just think a lot of the grifters exaggerate how much this has "consumed the West". I had a short anti SJW phase, I got over franchises I liked being butchered, and moved on, a lot of these people are incapable of doing that, or continue to play the culture war game for views.
@BilboBaggins365 My point was about how leftism/woke invaded all layers of society and caused damage to the meritocracy, which is why I mention things way outside of entertainment. The crying about entertainment is the reason I hate the so-called "anti-woke" nonsense, it's just a bunch of fat loser neckbeard zoomers doing reaction vids to some stupid Hollywood crap; because all they do is look at their phones and consume entertainment all day, and there is not more than six braincells TOTAL between all of them added together.
Most of them never watched anime, all they could do was talk about "Star Wars" but they jumped on the wagon with all the rest to bitch about Netflix Bebop, and made all these claims about what anime fans want, because they're grifters; they know fuck-all about anime and it disgusts me that people let these chuds tell them what to think.
All of Youtube is just flooded with millions of useless reaction videos by these rubes who never leave the house and probably never bathe. So yea I hate the so-called culture war for that reason, it's a fake war-of-words between idiots on one side and losers on the other.

This is exactly why the only reason i mostly use youtube at all these days is to watch for some new cooking tutorial for unique or neo-gourmet recipes to try out for myself, or vids on new techniques step by step on restoring extremely damaged old school arcade cabinets and ways to help cut costs for parts and components that are becoming harder to find as time passes.

leave people watch what they want to watch. There is no such thing as tourism. It's just a term to gatekeep people.

Sure, I am not exactly in support of affirmative action, especially as I think it doesn't solve the root of the problem, which is more difficult. Generally most of my actual issues with progressives mostly has to do with things like education, foreign policy, immigration etc rather than dumb entertainment stuff.

Yeah, I won't deny that.

It's mostly cooking videos (I like Ethan Chlebowski), a few history channels I like such as Indy Neidell's work (got a book recommendation off his videos), and a few book channels I follow. That is about it for me too. Sadly, I did watch some of those grifting channels, just after TLJ released lol.

It's mostly just fanservice shit, let's be honest, and specifically how anime uses fanservice, not sexual content in general. So called "tourists" are hardly saying fuck rakugo, fuck shogi, fuck historical Japanese settings, or something.

I actually think most "elitists" would agree with the "tourists" since they usually expect more out of the medium, or at least try to. They love quoting that Miyazaki quote about how otaku, don't create believable female characters, and just want pets.

Not sure what even is the point of this "anime tourism" talk if not to feed alt-right egos and fantasies of racial and cultural purity. Not sure what is even the problem about it if you don't have it already in your head that every act of media consumption is a culture war. And not sure why should I be forced to engage with and fight fictional media I don't like anyway. There's a lot of political premises to assume before one gets to consider the "problem" of anime tourism relevant.

@ColourWheel Yea YT is actually a great resource for specific things (the cooking side of YT is massive, I remember when I was trying to help a friend inspire something from cooking videos for her own possible channel) and I personally look for historical videos from the 1960s and 70s and have found some really interesting things. But you have to ignore the algorithm... it constantly tries to steer you toward grifters. I watch some old anime OVA and bang- there are all the channels, Trash Taste and Gigguk etc..
