I enjoyed it overall, it's a small step above the usual middling dross of the fantasy genre. But the entire time I was just waiting for him to run into the blonde again. He even talked about wanting to see her when he was less scary but then each episode goes by and nothing. He doesn't even think about or mention her. Also basically impossible that he could hide from her, she would be looking for him. He is large and imposing and uniquely dressed and they both live in the same town and frequent the same places. It's absurd to the point of just ignoring reality that she disappears form the story.

I get that the author wanted to tell a different story but I really wish he hadn't teased a different one to begin with. I thought it would start out smaller with him working with the girl to survive and find a way to rejoin society. But instead he just bails on her without even a goodbye and has almost no struggle and starts down the typical fantasy overpowered slide.

Like I said I enjoyed what we got but not as much as I should have because there was the constant nagging in the back of my head asking where is the girl when is she going to show up. I wish he had never met her in the first place it would have made the show much better for me personally.

I see the show is getting a second season so maybe my wish will be answered there, if not without much spoilers can anyone tell me if she plays a bigger part in the manga? Does the manga tell a complete story? If so is it worth reading? How faithful has the anime been?

First of all he's definitely not op in the slightest. He's just able to use his vast amount of knowledge and experience in a more suitable way now that he has a better body.

Secondly, you will see more of her from what I know and have seen. He was a disgusting creature at the time, just recently resurrected. He didn't want her to have any chance of being put into serious danger due to his own problems. Imagine the headlines, "Girl colluding with strange monster capable of speech".

Without trying to make it sound like a spoiler too much. Rentt will "evolve" in some ways to fit more into human society.

I hope you stick around please! It's definitely worth it, don't go second guessing too early.

Gonna have to hard disagree. She neither enhanced the story substantially or hindered it in the first season. I can tell she was introduced earlier on just so the MC can have a way to get himself in the town and that she was going to be someone of importance much later in the story. I don’t know how a character you only spend roughly 10 minutes with can ruin a whole show, that has to be hyperbole I hope.

@Chalc_ Thanks, and I'm not going anywhere, I finished the show last night and really enjoyed it. I plan on watching the second season and then maybe picking up the manga after that.

@CTMB_Emotionless I think you misunderstand my point, the point being that one thing happened that set my expectations to go one way and then it was quickly subverted. The "guy meets a girl in a weird situation and things happen" is a tale as old as time.
It's what they set up and then it was suddenly yanked away. The way it happened it made it seem like they would naturally get back together soon enough and go on more adventures. So I had that expectation in my head and when the show kept going in other directions it was frustrating. It's fine if the author doesn't want the mc to have a set party, but personally I feel like he should have constructed the beginning in a different way.

Show the mc finding his own way back to Lorainne since she is going to actually be the main side character. Instead the show seems to set up another situation, you have the moment where the girl hesitates and tries to push through her revulsion at his appearance saying she will work on it. But that is never followed through and just ends up being a dead plot line.
Likewise his comment that he wants to show himself to her when he has more humanity seems to ring hollow because he is never show to think about her again. It was these little things that appeared to be taking the show down one path when it does a 180 right afterwards that made it jarring to me.

The show wasn't ruined literally, I used that word in a more general sense. To be more precise it kept me on edge when I should have been able to relax and enjoy the ride and it overall lowered my enjoyment. What we got was great, but the false setup kept me hoping for something else thinking it would eventually pay off.

yh at first the blonde girl really threw me off for teaming up with the MC but afterwards it didn't bother me again since the story and the writing is peak especially the protagonist.
