Why do people like this anime?

Dude all I'm saying is this genre isn't your cup of tea. Also your list is filled with random ecchi which serves as a good enough testament to this fact. Your points for disliking this show are Animation and Slow pace.

Do you even realise that this is a representation of how quite a few people saw the internet in 1998? It was evolving at quite the breakneck speed, albeit not accessible to everyone. Lain explores not only a somewhat unchartered territory but also shows that time and again, too much development can lead to unpleasant circumstances. I'm sure I missed some things here but I believe others will get what I mean. Your one of few redeeming watch was Boku Dake ga Inai Machi.

Kindly explain to me what PLOT "Kiss x Sis" and "My Girlfriend is a Shobitch" was trying to deliver or what breakthrough animation did they achieve?

@JackOfDeath Well you have no proof of your age so I could only assume it. What does watching hentai have anything to do with this? I've seen more regular series than hentai. Anyway, that was just my assumption since I've honestly never seen anyone young actually talk good about older series unless it's shounen.

why can’t you accept that the anime is indeed good objectively even if your personal thoughts don’t go with it? lol mostly everyone enjoys the show. and for you to say “no it’s just boring” whenever someone tries to explain why we think otherwise is crazy.
i finished it in the span of a week (maybe less) i thought it was slow but not boring. it deserves being on people’s top lists.
this is like saying perfect blue is so boring and uninteresting, get over it and move on 😭

I personally think people like the aesthetic of the show, which there’s nothing particularly wrong with that, but because people enjoy it’s aesthetic and it’s (for a lack of better words) quirkiness, they’ll make up whatever excuse to tell you that the show is good. I personally don’t like the show that much although I’m not a full on hater, I can acknowledge that it’s definitely different and wanted to be more then the average for its time however that’s also all it has going for it, it simply has no substance, and to me it wasn’t worth the watch, to me it wasn’t worth sitting through a bunch of ideas that don’t go anywhere. It’s a show that’s left to viewer interpretation, to me it’s worth thrives on what you can make of it. I’d like to add that for me the show’s only psychological factor was making me ask “what the fuck did I just watch” which can count it if you want it to but to me the show’s not so much “psychological” it’s “experimental”, which isn’t bad but I think that the people who enjoy for what it is shouldn’t play it up to be anything more then that, art doesn’t always have to be deep, it can just be random…but then again…viewer interpretation, Serial Experiments Lain is just a big painting, and while I’m not big on the art world in regards to painting, I’m not crazy in saying that it’s usually the snobbiest and pretentious people giving meaning to things that don’t have any…interpret that how you will reader.

I think the bottom line is that, the show is interesting in some way, you may not like it, you may think it’s boring, you may love it’s aesthetics and it’s creative vision, but at the end of the day Serial Experiments Lain has to be some kinda interesting if it can cause such a tiny but important uproar, it’s a learning experience, for example while I don’t think the show is so deep, it can allow me to think significant thoughts in other ways by having conversation with people that have differing opinions, it’s not my favorite anime but I can respect it for being experimental and putting itself out there as a creative work and that thought alone is significant, so it is deep in some way, the problem comes when people start to make it more then what it is…but then again that’s just opinion differing opinions are healthy its one of the things that make us as humans different, and that’s thought only came to my head because of this discussion, and well wouldn’t you say that’s somewhat interesting, even if you the show itself isn’t its byproduct are. As much as I personally hate it Lain is deep by proxy I suppose.

@pecana it's kinda impossible to immerse yourself in it when half of the show is just empty shots with no dialogue. This could've easily been told in like 3 episodes or a movie but they dragged it out to 12 episodes? And the argument about it being boring is cause it is? There's nothing interesting about this anime it's just "bland"
