Honestly, for me, considering that there's nearly 5000 TV anime (don't ger me started on non TV stuff) and nearly 20000 manga/manhwa/manhua/etc (there's more than that but I'm only going to count the actually rated stuff on MAL, so I can know that its available subbed/scanlated or raw at least, and is not too obscure outside Japan/China/Korea or at worst, lost media), with those big numbers you can already know that there will be a good bunch of bad stuff for you so at this point you should have a percentage of of the stuff you actually like, honestly i'm getting pickier more and more everyday so i think the 10% of good stuff is too much for me, maybe a 5% or less would be better

and what's yours?
I know your PTW list is bigger than your completed list.

90% is shit is a bit too high. 75-80% sounds about right but only if we count mediocre stuff as shit, and only if we include all of the obscure kids-only anime that exist but you probably would never find them online.
By mediocre stuff I mean shows you kinda liked when watching but completely forgot about a month later. The fast foods of entertainment. The unpopular isekai show that nobody references ever. Stuff that when you see on your Completed list with a 5/10 or 6/10 rating, you have to stop for a minute to try and remember if you actually watched it or not, or what it was about.
If we discount those forgettable shows, then I guess that number would drop down to about 50-60%.

Hmm interesting, if we're talking all anime then I'd say that the 10% seems just about right. But if I narrow it down to anime that 1) I have the means to watch 2) I'd actually give a chance... then that number goes way up. About 50% of the anime I've chosen to watch has been good or better, and with time I only get better at finding ones I know I'll like. Same with manga.

I always felt that Sturgeon's 90% was accurate for all media
There's just so much content always being made that it's easy to exclusively consume the top 10%
With the TV anime number alone, that'd still be 500 great shows, which sounds fair to me
