It’s cause it was weird in the first two episodes and turned a lot of people off lmao.

I was also kinda iffy on it when he started talking about murder and being a edge lord but it was good!!

Most people think he starts off super edgy and cringe and it kind of left a bad first impression, myself included, but I ended up really loving the show very quickly when his character was changed. I do find it kind of strange that they glanced over the whole idea of him wanting to “kill her” initially and it’s never really brought up again lol, but I think maybe the mangaka knew it wasn’t that great of a concept and it was too much and they dropped it. Whatever the reasoning, his character took a turn for the best and I agree that he is a solid character now

I thought him wanting to kill her was his way of coping with the thought that he would never stand a chance to get even close to a girl like Yamada. So when he actually does, those thoughts vanish.
@Kimmy- I didn't take it as that. I thought it was just him in a edgy phase some young people get into where they get fascinated with serial killers and wanting to potentially kill others. Some grow out of it and realize it was really weird/wrong they thought that way, some actually go through with horrific acts and it actually wasn't just a phase. They genuinely are psychopaths. Anyways, you might be right, but that wasn't what I got from it. I wish it was at least discussed a little more what his real thought process was so we could have a better understanding what actually went down there.

This anime is overrated. There, I said it.
Dont get me wrong. Its a good anime but its current avg score is too much. 7/10 and I am being generous here.

@Gazz it's just for you,in fact this is the best new gen romance anime out there. If average romance like my dress up darling or horimiya can get that high rating why this anime that's much better can't get it?

I can't remember anything about this show except the fact that it was blatant pointless wish fulfillment garbage
@Lazulite coming from someone who like kuzu no honkai?? Not surprising since your taste is trash

It's not really just the MC....whole Show feels like a fetish flick catering to a very specific audience to me, that's all^^
It's this new Trend of the stronger girl bullying/caring for the weak, sometimes edgy, femboy that is just not my cup of tea. Also the Power Fantasy aspect of it - that there's always the hottie out there that'd actually fall in love with the aspiring school shooter...it's just...really not for me.

As far as romcom's go: I like mine a bit less over the Top and a tad less corny. Just a bit more believable. Can't get into it otherwise, when it comes to romance. at least.

Last eps is so good, when Ichikawa tell his honest opinion about Yamada. The introvert people will hardly to tell what they think, but Ichikawa can go through this wall.

Nice try Ichikawa 👍, and thank you Yamada to looking forward for him too 🥰

I love comments like this. Reminds me of my time listening to kids complain about how they're feeling, and not actually the thing in front of them.

You're not technically wrong. It is wish fulfillment. Being seen, and known by others is a basic human need. We desire it. Seeing it play out on screen is a cathartic experience.

The point is to make you feel something. That's the point of art. Lol If you don't enjoy it, that's okay. Find something else I guess.

@Johntyson31 I scored Horimiya 6/10, lower than Danger in my Heart. Dress Up Darling should be 7/10 but I gave it 8 because of the fan service done right.
So yeah maybe this anime is just for me. Maybe I am getting old now.

That's like saying McDonald's is a valid form of food because of how many people enjoy it while ignoring the fact that over 1/3 Americans are overweight

I second that. She felt way out of his world but its becoming very clear that he was wrong and that he has seen the world way darker than he needed to. End os S1 SPOILERS!:

he even was thanking Anna for getting him out into the real world, admitting that he took these 'gruesome' murder story books with him as a protection wall after failing to get to the same private school his then best friends went to. He simply wanted no friends that he could lose again afterwards, he was hurt by this loss. Even sadder that we never ever have seen these two guys again after they told him they will message him and stuff. I know it's normal to lose touch, especially at that age, but its all to real of a pain to feel like being the one left behind. Anna stepped behind that, way faster than he could've imagined, and she (maybe unintentionally) saw behind this grim mask he was putting on. That also is the reason why she feels safe with him, because as a model and somewhat famous person in her class and school she also clearly does not show it all. That's why she was eating in the library. Just recall how often Anna apologizes for the simplest mishaps, she seems like someone who really thinks she could not be enough. But not once did KyĹŤ seem to be annoyed by her, he even encourages her every single time, makes her feel safe, being good enough. She feels that he is not looking at her facade, he's not seeing someone famous in her, not someone who looks all grown up. And indeed KyĹŤ couldn't care less. He doesn't care for Anna because shes modeling. He cares for her modeling because it is Anna. They complement each other very well, they help each other facing the hurtful stuff they went through and are experiencing. I really hope this story goes on like this. and sorry for that rant xD

Ever thought about that you haven't even remotrly looked behind that curtain of "young hottie and garbage emo nerd"? What you are describing there is just relevant for like one to two episodes, it is very clear very soon that there is way more behind these two that these stereotypes.

@Densema

Maybe^^
I think a couple of Episodes already turned me off - cause of these tropes. So I didn't get into something I didn't like from the beginning.

Why "look behind the curtain" if you already don't like the premise of an Anime?
It's just not for me. It was weirding me out. No biggie.

@Lazulite Loot at yourself before correcting someone else,in the first place all you're saying here is meaningless bullshit without logic or reason, and coming from someone who likes trash like you makes your opinion even more stupid.

Those two things are not at all like one another. Lol How does experiencing too much art give you Amerifat, or any other illness? It doesn't. You're making yourself laugh with a joke, and pretending that's a compelling argument.

It's okay if you don't enjoy a piece of art. Art is subject to the viewer. Go find something you enjoy. :)

On the one hand I get the criticism. Ichikawa is an unpopular shy dude the school beauty somehow falls in love with. So it's easy to see this as an unrealistic wishfullfillment anime and toss aside.

In comparison to many other romcom MCs he's not more dense than a black hole though, but he just has low self-esteem and don't understand why someone like Yamada would fall in love with him. And that's quite realistic, so he's just doubting himself a lot and is very introverted.

Do girls like Yamada exist who fall for guys like Ichikawa? Yeah, but mostly people date others on "their level". So if anything I would've expected to skip this because of Yamada.
