I personally disliked the show, and considering Vindland Saga, JJK, Mashle, Trigun and a lot of other shows that came out this year, this is toward the bottom of my list

I think some other shows deserve it more tbh. I would still be fine if it wins. It was really good, I loved it. I doubted if I'll like this or not, but now I'm never doubting Akasaka Aka ever again.

Also, why are people talking about Frieren? lol. It's not in this years award. It will be nominated in 2025.

It’s up against some strong competition. It definitely deserves to be nominated. I’m still thinking about whether it should win AOTY, though. At the moment I’m leaning towards no.

I personally disliked it, thought it was boring and messy, but even through a more objective lens...... no, it does not deserve to be anime of the year. Most liked or popular is acceptable, I could respect that.

For me it would go Vinland 2, Frieren, JJK
Tough for me to put JJK at third but overall amazing year. Oshi No Ko will be in the convo for sure

There are many contenders for the 'AOTY (2023)' award, but I guess Oshi no Ko and Sousou no Frieren are the two direct competitors here.

I choose Oshi no Ko.

Under certain circumstances, it would have easily been but Frieren is looking to overtake it (despite also airing in 2024). And I started watching The Apothecary Diaries just today, and judging from the rankings chart, it might have the potential to also overtake Oshi no Ko in terms of quality. FYI, Vinland Saga aired its second season in the same year as Oshi no Ko, so it could by default be better than it (when I get to it).

I'm my honest opinion, AoT rightfully deserves it but it wasn't included for idk what reason and so anyways, my vote will go to JJK followed by CSM and Vinland. AoT may be included in the next year's awards so yeah there's that.

I feel like jjk season 2 deserves AOTY the animation was crazy the fights just everything had me out of my seat. Oshi no ko on the other hand was great storytelling and the first episode is the best one I seen in my life. I would give oshi no ko best new anime of the year and some other awards but not AOTY.

Considering its competitors, its a hard guess but its between jjk season 2, vinland saga season 2 and oshi no ko. i did vote for oshi no ko tho

It deserves to be a nominee.... I don't think it quite deserves to win. Deserves to win more than demon slayer, but not nearly as much as vinland saga.

There are several 2023 anime which deserve more to be AOTY but I also don't really mind if Oshi no Ko turn out to be the one :)

oshi no ko is great, but not the best, but unfortunatelly they didnt put any true competitor on this one so yeah between the choices it deserves.

Nah. That balloon lost a lot of air after that excellent opening episode. Farmland Saga, Pluto and Frieren are clear in my book

It’s was good, but absolutely not (in comparison to other shows). That isn’t to say it won’t deserve it later on when other parts of the manga get adapted.
