I wasn't a huge fan of season one but I trudged through it hoping to get at least some enjoyment out of it. I heard that season two is significantly darker, and it is, but I wasn't prepared for just how boring it was going to be.

I can't find it in myself to care about anyone or anything that's happening. Odasaku is so bland and Dazai is probably even more unlikeable than he was in season one. The Mimic guys have possibly the worst motivation of all time. The plot tries to pull off subterfuge and double crosses but it does not come off well at all.

Honestly these four episodes would've been better as an hour long OVA or something, they don't really seem like they're going to have any real bearing on the plot and there is a lot of dead air across the 2 hours I spent watching these.

Does it get better after these four episodes? I can't be bothered to muddle my way through series that don't grab my interest anymore. Season one was such a snooze fest and this season is shaping up to be even worse.

Oof, if you weren’t interested by the first few eps of season 2 I don’t think you’ll like the rest of the show. Although there is more fighting towards the latter half of the show, to me the first few eps were wayyy better. If you didn’t like the series I would just recommend dropping it. No need to force yourself to like something. By this time you’ve gotten the jist of the show.

Well, based on the way u are describing, maybe its better u drop it. Dont seem like u liked season 1 either.

I didnot per say see any change in quality from season 1 to season 2 other than more of storyline progression and character development. (for me it was not all that different from golden kamuy which u have in favorite either). So i really can't relate.

Insanely better. It’s one of the biggest jumps I know of. Season 2 and 3 are miles above Season 1.

But if you already don’t like it then don’t continue I guess

I really liked the premise and how the show shifted from a battle shonen/seinen to a more nuanced mafia story but it has not been executed well. I'll probably finish this season bc I hate dropping things while they're still in progress.

I feel that, just maybe don’t force yourself for s3. Hopefully it’ll be more enjoyable for you than it has been.

The first two seasons of GK aren't perfect either but at least they're entertaining. The comedy and action in this series has not worked for me like it did with GK.

It is gone be more of action in s2 tbh. S3 might be a bit different by having non linear multiple story coming together.
In the end, it upto u to decide. If u want to drop it then drop it.
I didnt feel any big jump or down per say from season to season tbh

The first 3 or 4 episodes of S2 and S3 are mostly stuff that has to do with the characters past. It gives great character development for the characters you see later on. But S2 gets infinitely better when you see more of the Guild. Overall it gives better character development to Dazai even if it may not seem so now.

Personally, the first four episodes of S2 were one of my most favourite parts of BSD... n it indeed is really good...
I think, as you didn't like S1 n these 4 eps as well, you should drop it... if you didn't enjoy these episodes, I don't think you'll like the rest of the series... I mean, the rest of the episodes are not worse than these eps, but they aren't much better than them either....
The rest us your choice... For me the series as whole was a 9-9.5/10... I really loved it...

I actually did like the second half of episode four and the end of the arc as a whole but it felt like we spent way too much time getting there. I guess it gives Dazai's past some more depth and explains his character a bit more but I don't think we needed two full hours of runtime to show that, I still think it would've been better as an OVA. Episode five was a marked improvement in both pacing and plot imo.

Respectfully disagree, I do like BSD but some parts, beginning of S2 especially, have just been grueling. The end of the arc was cool but I knew exactly how the arc was going to end for like 110 of the 120ish minute runtime.

I recommend you to drop it, if it didn't hook you from the start. BSD is a character-focused anime, the plot serves the cast and not vice versa. If you don't particularly like anyone, you'll be utterly disappointed. I love it to death, but I have to be honest - it's not for everyone.

I am struggling to understand how you can give all of this negative description about a show, saying that it's a snoozefest and that it's not grabbing your interest, and still say you like it.

If you have to force or "muddle" your way through a show just to watch it, you probably don't like it.

Sounds like you don’t need to watch the show anymore. It’s okay to drop things.

On the other hand, I don’t understand how you can say this is a snoozefest but yet have HxH as a favorite, which is one of the slowest and most grueling shows out there (Greed Island/Chimera Ant).

if you didn’t like it during the eps you might not like it. I personally didn’t like bsd after season one about a year ago. I tried watching it again a couple months ago and it’s one of my favorites now. You might want to take a break for a couple months and come back to it. You might like it after that time. it’s ok to drop things.

I like the premise and the powers but not necessarily the plot. I should've clarified that I was basically watching it for the fights as I found the characters and overall story lacking.

I don't think HxH is perfect but I never found it hard to keep watching, even at the beginning of Chimera when things moved a bit slow.

this show is definitely overrated in my eyes but season 2 is a bit better than season 1 not by much though. I know everyone is suggesting to drop it but I think you should at least finish it it isn't too long just kinda sit back and go on the ride and let it take you wherever whether that place is good or bad but it's good to experience something you might not like just like you experience things you do like.

Season 2 is my favorite season, but the main draw of the show to me is the characters and powers. So if those didn’t interest you already don’t bother. Season 2 does reference more American literature so maybe you will like that more

Based on how you’re describing the characters and plot development I think this series isn’t for you.

I believe Odasaku is a great character but is overshadowed by Dazai. I got confused by Mimic, I was as well. Odasaku is a part of how Dazai sees the world now, he’s a pivotal part of Dazai’s character and his motivations.

If you don’t like the characters and think they’re annoying no one is forcing you to watch the series.

I would say stop watching it if you don’t enjoy it.
Season 2 is darker yeah.

If you can’t enjoy the series in the anime medium I recommend reading the Light Novels which go into depth about the PM and ADA and their respective member’s backgrounds which includes but isn’t limited to;

Dazai’s Entrance Exam, (adapted into the beginning of season 1) (two years before canon events)

Osamu Dazai The Dark Era (episode 13 and 16) it’s from Odasaku’s pov and goes into why Dazai left the PM and more detail into Mimic and their motivations. I highly recommend this if you don’t understand Dazai or Odasaku since they’re important to the story.

As of now, there are BSD nine light novels the most recent being “Stormbringer” which follows a young Chuuya discovering the truth of his past.

A lot of these Light novels have content that was cut to make the anime more “digestible” including whole characters.

So if it’s a lack of detail I would read the light novels the official translations you can find on Amazon or any online bookstore.

I'm not gonna let you look down on me like this. Like I said in my S1 review, I think that the power system, music, and fights were very good but I found that the fights were the only things keeping me interested; the story and characters were not grabbing my interest. Still, I watched it all because I thought that season one was laying the groundwork and that the plot would pick up a bit in season two. That is not the case. The story took a huge step backwards by putting out four episodes of boring backstory that didn't do anything besides make Dazai's character more confusing.

It seems like you think BSD is this intricate story of interwoven plot lines that I'm just too dumb to grasp but I think it's way simpler than that- some people like its simplicity, which I respect, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Thanks for filling me in on the LNs, I'll definitely give them a look. I think the anime doesn't do a great job of showing off this intricately written plot with these super layered characters that everyone says BSD has, so I'm hoping the novels go into more detail.

Bro what 💀 bsd is basically a battle shonen outside of these 4 episodes. Even so, there are shonen that do a way better job of getting its themes and messages across without being boring or contrived- you can’t say the same for bsd. It’s also funny you assume that all I watch is shonen when most of my highest series are in fact not shonen.

He was cool but he's another character with very shallow motivations and not a lot of emotional depth. "I don't kill because I want to be an author" is a really strange motivation. It's also hard to get attached to someone whose fate is sealed from the first minute of the first episode.

It's fun, definitely more interesting than the first. But honestly, the Dazai flashback arc in the first half of the series was just really damn good, the latter half fell short, as well as the present events. At least that's what I thought. BSD has been sort of a hit or miss for me, the only bit I liked was the flashback arc. Though, like I said the continuation of the story is pretty nice.

Oh boy, the first 4 episodes are actually the highlights of the season, after that everything return to the usual battle shounen generic shit. They gave me false by hope by referencing literary figures...... but then it rurned out that the show is referencing them in the most shallow way possible. Such a disappointment.
