I'm pretty sure most people here would be smarter in Subaru's situation. Ie trying to find a way around Return by Death's curse to not tell anyone about it, and whatnot.
In addition, I don't understand why, whenever an anime protagonist appears who is flawed, the community's reaction seems quick to deem that character as ground-breaking and realistic.

Ah yes because telling people that you have time travel powers is the right thing to do... smh... Roswaal and Echidna already prove that information about RbD should never be shared with anyone.

Re: Zero takes place in a very high fantasy world. Given that fact, the idea of a known magical witch, who can allow someone to time travel shouldn't be a far cry stretch from reality. In addition, Subaru never tries to even consider what the limitations (ie the checkpoints) are for Return by Death. If we were in his place, we wouldn't be that stupid.

Of all the fanbases I've seen, Re: Zero's is the only one where the fans defend the series to death, to a point where they refuse to acknowledge any flaws, any logical loopholes, of this series. As annoying as Jojo fans can be, at least they acknowledge, and accept, the series' criticisms.

I recommend rewatching the 1st episode and ask: would an actual, mentally functioning human being, behave like this? The constant screaming, yelling, posing, etc. I don't think Subaru's behavior throughout much of season 1 could even be classified as high functioning autism.

yes,any human would react like that because character like Naruto,eren are born in that world and they have seen fighting and death from a young age but subaru is not like that.and the pose is just a joke it's like the comical facial expression which are not new to anime.

In the very 1st ep of Re: Zero, Subaru:
Does not act shocked, surprised, at being transported into a fantasy world, which is abnormal. He starts yelling and posing in public. He treats the people around him, not like real people, but as NPCs.
No matter how you look at it, no human being who is even a BIT functional, in real life, would behave like this.

he is actually a neet and he may have played a lot of games and,so he should have taught it is a game and easy as a game(In the 1st episode he tried to rescue a child),also he has no idea of how brutal the world is,so as u said he treated all people as NPCs.Actually he was shocked but more than that he was interested and happy(took it as easy)-he is naive tho.

Being a NEET does not lead to this kind of abnormal behavior. Given Subaru's character, it makes sense why he'd be somewhat glad to be in a fantasy world, but think about it from a common sense perspective; any normal human being would be absolutely shook from literally blinking into a world that defies all preconceived notions of reality.
I feel what we are arguing here is something very common sense. I feel you are playing Devil's advocate for the sake of it. Why do Re: Zero fans defend every basic flaw of this series?

What does, "let leave it be itself" mean? This is a website where people are encouraged to share their opinions on anime; including negative ones. It's not like my opinion is going to impact the show itself in any way. So no, I'm not going to "let leave it be itself;" I am going to criticize this series, for as much as I want, and I am going to share that opinion.

He could have phrased it better, but he meant that no one is forcing you to watch it if you don't like it. But your point still stands. A show isn't unwatchable because you dislike one element of it. Show has a shit protagonist really, and that'll always be my complaint but most of the rest is solid.

I never said I exactly disliked Re: Zero. Watching the show is like eating a donut mixed with weed. I have many other complaints about Re: Zero, beyond the garbage protagonist.

While the "realistic" part is an annoyance it's certainly not my biggest grievance with him. It would be his almost psycopathic behavior once he gets too emotional, and his god damned yelling. I wish someone yanks out his tongue and creates a save point some times when he just won't shut up. He isn't realistic, he's a character based on idealism of how a guy should be. Hint: Don't be this type of person. You'll be hated by everyone for being a nuisance.

S2 already explained why Subaru has that personality and Re:Zero is all about him maturing and becoming a better person so I don't see how he's "a character based on idealism of how a guy should be"

Story just explains why he's a lowly shonen esque protagonist. At the end of the day, that is what he is. Let's just hope he gets out of that trash tier position.

That doesn’t make much sense. In season 2 (part I), Subaru does rely on others, but the wrong ones, that is, Ram, Fredrica, & Patrasche, but that was clearly the incorrect choice, as they get flattened.

On the other hand, he Saw Reinhardt destroy Elsa in the past without breaking a sweat or using his main sword. Why the heck would he suddenly think knights like Reinhardt are too weak for Elsa & her accomplice yet some maids & a ground dragon are fine? He even tried to take Ram & Patrasche in more than 1 life.

Subaru even called Reinhardt a monster after the latter’s battle with Elsa back in arc 1.

I don’t know, man. He SAW what they could do. Subaru KNOWS that guys like Julius, Wilhelm & Ricardo EACH could absolutely obliterate Elsa & co. COMBINED with the guys’ eyes closed & their hands tied behind their backs. Yet Subaru continuously either goes alone or brings only the weakest person with him (Ram).
