Why do people watch shows at a faster speed?

there's no law preventing people with watching it faster. just because you yourself arent able to doesn't mean others don't.

lets say a show is so slow that it becomes boring. then lets say you increase the speed and you start liking it more because the show is going at a faster rate that suits your attention span. the entertainment factor goes up.

me myself liked monster more when I put it at 1.25 speed instead of normal.

i do this sometimes, to be honest. i can keep up with really fast subs even at 2x speed, so that's never been an issue.

whenever i speed up a show its because im really bored in general, and want to do like 3 things at once. i remember once i listened to music, watched anime at 2x speed, and listened to a youtube video at the same time lol.

anime is far too slow. my better half is japanese and thinks anything between 1.2-1.5x depending on the show is about right in terms of natural talking speed.

that and trying to live a normal life whilst coping with this addiction makes it a necessity!

Personally I'm not a fan of speeding up shows whatsoever. Most thing I would do is skip a few seconds to bide time but that's it.

I speed up some of the animes, and some of them not. In my opinion, speeding up is a great way to cut time, because it saves time to watch another animes that deserve to watch them at a regular speed. For example: I watch 2/3 of the currentlly airig animes at a 2x speed (specially on fridays, cause a lot of new episodes came out on fridays). I also use that feature to judge them (all in my opinion, of course). Imagine if you spend like 4+ hours to watch 12 episodes of an anime that you'll give iit a 1. Definitively a waste of time.

Obviously, it's only possible to do it if the anime has a simple plot, or you can read and understand the subtitles fast. And also, you have the choice to slow it to normal speed if you think that you need it , or viceversa.

That's my opinion. I hope that this is well redacted and understandable.

Obviously, it's only possible to do it if the anime has a simple plot, or you can read and understand the subtitles fast. And also, you have the choice to slow it to normal speed if you think that you need it , or viceversa.

That's my opinion. I hope that this is well redacted and understandable.

the way i see it - people who are doing so are justify themself in all kind of claims, true or not, in the end they not:

i will admit that i tried only to understand how people do it. in 1.1x, and it was horrible.
people don't have time to watch?
people want to "skip" slow pace?
people want to "get over with the anime" or whatever?
no matter what the reason, today with players they can just click mysterious small button called "pause" and watch it later without setting yourself in what speed to watch, and if there's. a reason inside the episode itself that making you want to rush it, maybe the anime isn't for you or you shouldn't watch it or rather have more patient, or rather dropping it than ruin yourself the watching experience.

there's no law preventing people with watching it faster. just because you yourself arent able to doesn't mean others don't.

lets say a show is so slow that it becomes boring. then lets say you increase the speed and you start liking it more because the show is going at a faster rate that suits your attention span. the entertainment factor goes up.

me myself liked monster more when I put it at 1.25 speed instead of normal.

if you liked monster only when speeding it up you really don't understand the genius behind it, and if you didn't like it otherwise that's really shame, slow pace like in monster case is one of the things making it masterpiece, if you would tell me one piece i would understand more, but monster?

if show boring you, you don't have to watch it, if speeding it up makes it interesting, it's not because it is interesting for it's story, but because you watch it so fast you don't mind, there's nothing wrong with not liking the story because of it's pace, even if the majority thinks it's masterpiece it doesn't mean everyone have to agree with it, and if because of that people speeding up they not really like it, they just liked the fact it's bearable to watch when it's less than 20 minutes length.

there's also not law preventing people to pause the anime, or dropping it, because they can't stand pace or too much time for talking, i don't say people not allowed to speed up, but they shouldn't justify themself doing that, because every time i see people giving excuses doing that I'm disgusted that people don't see the true value of things, and monster is a perfect example for this. as for series like one piece, i can understand it, though my solution is to wait for full arcs marathon is better, the pace really doesn't bother you like this.

I understood Monster perfectly BECAUSE I watched it faster.

there is big difference, monster's slowness is matter of direction while one piece slowness is because it's close to the manga pace.

as i said, there's choice for making anime slow paced, anime like monster are building episode after episode, making a whole puzzle at the end, there's more like this which doesn't come to my end now, but choosing to make slow pace is a thing that someone like you that choose to faster it won't get it, because it's bothering you so you will choose to make yourself your own pace.
fma03 for example have pretty slow pace at some points, but it was great because it let the watcher not being overwhelmed, there's a lot examples for that that you won't understand and don't try to say you do, one piece are different case.

they don't make sense at all, you are just justify yourself to feel good, fast-forwarding anime is bad thing because you jus want to watch it faster than it is, ignoring the pace the studio wanted you to watch and watch it in the wrong way, and then call yourself you loved it, it's wrong, you didn't liked monster or other anime you watched it fast because the quality of it, but because you got rid of what bothered you in the anime, so instead confronts with the flaws or seeing their place in the production, you preferred to ignore them and claiming you loved the anime when you actually hated it.

so you know my mind. you know what I like now. I'm not a critic. I don't analyze shit and criticize others for not appreciating shit as I do. so I don't care about the flaws monster has. because for all 74 episodes i was entertained by the fun it provided. if someone likes things this way then good for them. i don't care if it was "meant" to be watched like this. I'm watching it for ME not anyone else. ME

the studio doesn't live with me. thy don't make it for me exclusively they make it for the general public.

I always watch at normal speed, even if I find it boring, I tend to check my phone at parts it is kind of a drag but never speed up

I've only watched anime on faster speed once that I can remember, and that anime was Tsuritama.

I really liked Tsuritama. It's a great show. I enjoyed Yuki, I enjoyed Haru, I really liked the metaphors for anxiety. The characters are funny. But I just remember one episode, I was just so bored with what was going on, I wanted to know what happened after and have context, but I couldn't care less about what was happening in that moment. So I put it to 1.5x.

I think the main reason people do this is

1. It's a seasonal show, and they just want to be a part of the conversation, and don't actually care about the show, or
2. They are tired/have something to do/ a place to be and just wanna watch an episode real quick.

Moral of the story, go watch Tsuritama
