Do people not know what a coming of age story is. It’s about a guy trying to become a better person. So of course he’s going to start off being annoying.

The MC of any anime series (in fact, any storytelling medium) is the object/identity that drives the story. It is the vehicle we use to transport us through the scenario. Of course we can severely criticize a show in general because of its terrible MC, after all it will have: more dialogue, more screentime, more scenes, the story revolves around him, every action they do has a reaction that we follow, we watch their thoughts, we hear their monologues, etc. Many iconic anime are famous because they have great MCs. Heck, it's a super important aspect in almost every anime, unless such an anime is one with multiple protagonists.

But in this case, no, and the MC is one of the worst I've ever seen. A pity because the girls are fun, they have attractive artstyle and they're the ones moving the story instead of the MC.

Well yes, He's the type of guy that wimps out every time he sees an opportunity (To be Honest, It made me Cringe a lot).

Let's be realistic here. If the cast was gender flipped so it becomes Rent A Boyfriend, Kazuya's role would be loved simply because waifu and Mami's and Ruka's roles would be hated even more. That scene where Ruka cries because Kazuya won't date her? If it was a guy doing that, people would be throwing the simp and loser cards at him.

Say what you will about how cute Ruka is or whatever, doesn't change the fact that she's like a stalker who won't take no for an answer. Kazuya has made it clear that he has no interest in dating her, yet she keeps on pestering him and forcing him to date her. No one is entitled to a relationship for the person they like. No one is obligated to give their time to someone they don't like. If the roles were reversed, like when Kazuya was stalking Chizuru and that tall good looking guy, then people would be outraged.

They blamed Kazuya for acting like a stalker yet won't keep that same energy towards Ruka (who is arguably worse since what Kazuya did was a one time thing, but this Ruka tries to force him to hug her, presses herself on his body without consent, follows him even when he told her not to, etc.)

Y'all need to stop blaming a depressed and verbally abused guy for literally everything. Yes, he made wrong choices but the dude is battling himself and trying to grow and change. Give him some time, people don't grow overnight. Screw Ruka, though. I can't respect someone who can't be considerate of their crush's wishes.

The only things I remember about about this show are:

The MC has a callused dick from all the fapping he does.

The main girl was very cute and she needs to be in my stable.

There were some good jokes in it. Not enough to rewatch, but I laughed at the time.
