I don't have a preference, I can enjoy either subs or dubs equally.

For many years I was dub-only, because I had started with anime on US TV, so I was used to dubs, and I would always watch the dub track of any series I bought on DVD. This year I started watching a lot more stuff subbed, and so I've become used to it.

I think it really depends on which version I saw a series in the first time. If I saw something dubbed, I prefer the dub. If I saw something subbed, I prefer the original Japanese.

I tend to think dubs get an unnecessarily bad rap, but I know it's all a matter of personal preference.

Subs cuz I can easily go back and understand what I missed. And it helps me learn the language!

Dubs are really dependent on which I saw first, like I love Inuyasha & Ranma's voice. Full Metal Alchemist is great. I prefer the Naruto dub over the sub. Same for Case Closed...but Death Note is unforgivable, and I'm not sure whether it's the anime itself or the dubbing.

I generally prefer dubs. I'm a bit of a slow reader and I like to enjoy the work that goes into the anime itself as well. I have nothing against subs though, I've learned to appreciate them a lot more over the last few years. Plus there are things like comedic timing when you're watching something funny...that's mostly when I prefer dubs. But there are think like anything by Makoto Shinkai when I think nothing but subs will do.

Still SUBS FTW! :D
I don't really have any counterintuitive ideas that you might be interested in, carry on.

I voted for subs, but sometimes I like the dubs more, usually when I start watching it in English first (although there are a few exceptions, like Ouran High School and Fruits Basket). But usually, I hate dubs.

- official dubs over anime usually suck,
- fansubs often use more literal translations, i prefer those,
- for some reason i really love listening to proffesional seiyuu and to japanese in general,
- i can always learn a few japanese words by listening to original, japanese voices and reading subs.

i never, ever watch dubs and i find well-done fansubs to be superior to anything else.

Subs > Dubs
When I first started watching anime i didnt like subs for the whole " I dont want to read while watching a show ", but later on i got used to watching subs since alot of the shows i wanted to see didn't have dubs yet and now prefer subs to dubs with few exceptions where i actually like the dub version over the subbed, Full Metal Panic only one that comes to mind right now but for the most part subs better.

I prefer subs, but if the only thing available is dubs (although this rarely happens...), I would still watch it.

I saw Elfen Lied dubbed, by accident really, and it was horrible. The high pitched young girl voice that is so prevalent in english dubs makes me sick to my stomach.

Subs.

Definitely subtitled. Better understanding (you can stop action to read or even translate then just reverse over and over^^) and so far japanese dubs beat all others with no even compare (sound way better). Since I don't know japanese but i really like it I prefer subs plus japanese dub give extreme climate to the anime for me.

depends on the Dub, as long as it's done well i can watch a dub. Like i enjoyed Baccano!, Cowboy Bebop, and several others. I kinda cringe at Funimations dubs now though >.< to much of the same voices over and over again >.< Though i do mostly watch subs.

I actually prefer the dubs to subs. I do read fast, but not quite fast enough to read the on-screen text and get a sense of the action and emotion. For a fast-paced show like Hetalia, I started with subs, but had to switch because I couldn't keep up with anything (I'm still having trouble, but that's beside the point).
My first ever anime was the dubbed version of Bleach. I was plowing through 15 episodes a day and I loved it.
Sometimes, I like to put anime on when I'm eating or doing some mindless task. For those sorts of things, dubs are better since (because I don't understand a lick of Japanese) I don't have to worry about looking away from the screen and missing something important. So, of course, I'll be the kind of person to search out the dubs first before the subs, just to make sure I can follow the story before I try and get into the inside jokes and wordplay (ie, the "cowterpie" incident from Pokemon).
