Number one; as was revealed in the latest episode, the narrative justification for people being on Naofumi's case right from the start was nothing more than lazy writing. This supports my assertion that the "setup" of the false rape accusation was contrived for the purpose of justice porn and not good storytelling or character development. There was no development or explanation of the motivations of the villains in the first episode, which added to the apparent contrivance for the sake of plot advancement.

Number two; the actual hardship that Naofumi experienced as a direct result of the frame-up was limited at most. Yet he spends the rest of the series with an expression on his face like he is perpetually constipated.

When you realize that Raphtalia underwent trauma orders of magnitudes greater, to say nothing of other demi-humans in-universe, it puts Naofumi's overboard reaction in perspective. The plot and development of his character fail to justify his edgy demeanor. This can only lead to the conclusion that he was written to appeal to shitlords who think an asshole MC is cool, regardless of the actual reasoning behind the characterization.

Calling me dense won't change facts, and might be projection. Food for thought.

No question, the adaptation has been whitewashing the story, maybe in attempt to head off criticism from certain Western media or generally be more acceptable to broad audiences.

Not that I'm defending the source material mind you, but the changes they have made are not doing the story any favors.
